In WoW Forever you get talents from level 10, the trees have milestone talents at 11, 16, 21 and 31 points, and Dual Specialization arrives at level 40. You reset talents at your class trainer in a major city. Blizzard hasn't announced a price for Dual Spec or for respecs, but it has said respec costs will climb quickly after launch and only fall back once per week, because it doesn't want cheap respecs. Plan one leveling spec and stick to it until 40.

This page covers how Forever talents work, what respecs will cost (as far as anyone knows), Dual Spec, and the leveling spec for every class.

The new 16-point milestones are the biggest change for leveling. Several classes get a key ability there, for example the Shaman's Stormstrike and the Warrior's new Spearing Strike. Blizzard redesigned every class tree, so old Classic talent builds don't transfer; use a Forever build. Our class changes overview links each class's changes.

Legacy speeds it up. The Legacy perk Talented unlocks talent points up to five levels early. See our Legacy points guide.

Respec costs: what Blizzard has said

Blizzard told TechRadar: "We do not want to have cheap respecs… When the game goes live, the price of re-spec will climb quickly and only decrease once per week." It also mentioned the "possibility" of more respec flexibility for Legacy talents.

  • No launch prices are published. We won't guess.
  • The beta was cheap on purpose. Wowhead reported beta resets of 1 silver, rising to 5 gold within an hour. Those were testing prices.
  • What it means for leveling: a respec or two is fine (for example a Warrior switching from Arms to Protection at 16), but swapping specs for every dungeon gets expensive fast. That's what Dual Spec is for.

Dual Spec at 40

Blizzard's class deep dive lists Dual Specialization at level 40, and Blizzard told TechRadar it's "learned at level 40 for a cost". On the official podcast, a developer said 40 is "currently" the level and joked about "maybe a cheeky thirty", so check your trainer at launch. The price hasn't been announced.

Good leveling uses for a second spec:

  • Warrior: Protection for solo and tanking, Arms or Fury for later. See our Prot Warrior guide.
  • Paladin, Priest, Shaman, Druid: a damage spec for questing and a healing spec for dungeons.
  • Mage: a Frost AoE spec for pulls and a single-target spec. See Mage AoE leveling.
  • Hunter and Warlock: a pet-focused leveling spec plus a dungeon or endgame spec.

Talent tips while leveling

  • Spend points the moment you get them. A point sitting unspent is free damage you're not using.
  • Check tooltips. Blizzard tuned talents up to the November 2 notes, so builds written early in the beta can be out of date.
  • Train new ranks and place them yourself. Since 2 November, new spells are no longer added to your action bars automatically.
  • Low ranks are fine again, except for Mage Blizzard. Blizzard's November 2 notes removed the low-rank penalty from talent procs for all spells but Blizzard.
  • Budget for training. Blizzard's November 2 notes put class training from 1 to 60 at about 206–207 gold for every class. See our gold guide.

When do you get Dual Spec in WoW Forever?

At level 40. Blizzard's class deep dive lists Dual Specialization at 40, and Blizzard told TechRadar it is learned at level 40 for a cost. On the official podcast, a developer said 40 is the current plan and floated a lower level, so check the trainer at launch.

Blizzard hasn't announced a price. It has only said that Dual Specialization is learned at level 40 for a cost. Any gold figure you see before launch is a guess.

How much does a talent respec cost in WoW Forever?
