Shaman Leveling Guide for WoW Forever: Enhancement Talents, Rotation and Tips
Level a Shaman in WoW Forever: Enhancement talents, 60-minute imbues, 5-minute totems, Call of the Elements at 20, Fire Nova, professions and Legacy perks.
EnlargeLevel a Shaman as Enhancement in WoW Forever, with a two-handed axe or mace. Two-handed weapons are now baseline, so you don't spend talent points on them. Let your auto attacks and weapon imbue do most of the damage, apply Flame Shock, finish with Earth Shock and refresh Lightning Shield between pulls. Stormstrike is a 16-point talent; since Blizzard's November 2 notes it deals 150% weapon damage on a 6-second cooldown. Forever's totem and imbue changes remove much of Classic's busywork. Weapon imbues last 60 minutes, buff totems last 5 minutes, and totems have a 1-second global cooldown. From level 20, Call of the Elements drops all four totems with one cast. Wowhead's guide warns that Enhancement is mana-hungry and can only handle one or two enemies at once.
This guide covers what Forever changed for leveling Shamans, then spec, talents, totems, rotation, professions, camp buffs and Legacy perks.
Sources: Blizzard's Mage and Shaman class deep dive and Wowhead's Enhancement Shaman leveling guide. Checked 3 November 2026 and updated on 4 November against Blizzard's November 2 development notes. The beta stopped at level 30, so 31–60 is a forecast.
What Forever changed for leveling Shamans
Blizzard's deep dive focuses on making Shaman tools quicker to use in combat:
- Totems: 1.0-second global cooldown (down from 1.5). Totems with persistent buffs last 5 minutes instead of 2. A new tracking UI shows active totems and their remaining time, and you can right-click it to dismiss a totem.
- Weapon imbues (Rockbiter, Flametongue, Frostbrand, Windfury) last 60 minutes instead of 5. They can now be active alongside temporary enchantments such as sharpening stones.
- Fire Nova is a spell. The Fire Nova Totem is gone. The new Fire Nova spell erupts at your current Fire totem. Wowhead notes you need the Call of Fire quest for it.
- Windfury Totem and Flametongue Totem are now party buffs rather than weapon enchantments. They don't work on a Shaman who has the matching weapon imbue. Tranquil Air Totem is removed.
- Lightning Bolt casts in 2.5 seconds from rank 4. Blizzard's November 2 notes raised its base damage on every rank (+80% at max rank). Chain Lightning now has a 2.5-second cast, hits its first target for about 145% of a same-rank Lightning Bolt and costs about 225% of the mana.
- Shocks went back to their Classic Era damage on November 2, which is higher than during most of the beta.
- Two-Handed Axes and Maces, Weapon Mastery, Enhancing Totems and Improved Weapon Totems are now baseline.
New totem tools by level
| Level | Ability | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| 20 | Totemic Recall | Destroys all your totems and refunds 25% of their mana |
| 20 | Call of the Elements | Unlocks the totem bar; summons a preset of four totems in one 3-second cast |
| 22 | Totemic Call (was Totemic Projection) | Teleports your totems to your own location; 30-second cooldown since November 2 |
| 30 | Call of the Spirits | A second preset of four totems |
| 40 | Call of the Ancestors | A third preset of four totems |
Blizzard noted a beta bug where Totemic Recall didn't refund mana. Check the tooltip at launch.
Best Shaman leveling spec: Enhancement
| Spec | Leveling verdict | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Enhancement | Best | Two-hander damage, Stormstrike every 6 seconds since November 2, Wowhead's leveling pick |
| Elemental | Good | Much stronger Lightning Bolt since November 2, Lightning Overload at 10/20/30%; more mana pressure |
| Restoration | Dungeons | Riptide (31 points) is now a heal over time only; slow solo |
Elemental got the biggest launch buffs: Blizzard's November 2 notes raised Lightning Bolt damage, tripled Lightning Overload (now a 10/20/30% chance to cast a duplicate) and replaced Lava Burst with Call of Thunder (+5% crit on Lightning Bolt and Chain Lightning). Elemental Mastery is now called Lightning Mastery. It is a fair choice if you like casting, but Enhancement still handles leveling better. Melee damage doesn't use mana, and your shocks stay cheap with Shamanistic Focus.
Enhancement talents for leveling
All classes get talents from level 10, milestones unlock at 11, 16, 21 and 31 points in a tree, and you respec at a class trainer in a major city. Dual Spec unlocks at 40.
Enhancement talents from Blizzard's deep dive that matter for leveling:
| Talent | What it does |
|---|---|
| Thundering Strikes (row 1) | More crit with all spells and attacks |
| Improved Ghost Wolf (row 4 since November 2, so out of reach by level 20) | Rank 1 makes Ghost Wolf usable indoors with a 1-second shorter cast; rank 2 makes it instant |
| Mental Dexterity (row 2) | Attack power equal to 50/100/150% of your Intellect (raised on November 2) |
| Shamanistic Focus (11-point milestone) | Much cheaper Shocks and Lightning Shield |
| Elemental Weapons (row 3) | Moved up from row 5 |
| Flurry | Up to 30% attack speed (raised on November 2); requires Mental Dexterity |
| Stormstrike (16-point milestone) | 150% weapon damage on a 6-second cooldown (November 2); your next Lightning Bolt, Chain Lightning or Earth Shock deals 20% more |
| Spirit Weapons (21-point milestone) | Less threat when not using Rockbiter |
| Maelstrom Weapon (row 6) | Melee hits build charges that make Lightning Bolt faster, eventually instant; twice as likely to trigger since November 2 |
| Rage of the Farseer (31-point milestone) | 30% attack speed for 25 seconds, 3-minute cooldown |
Blizzard's final pre-launch notes (November 2) are reflected above. Blizzard says it doesn't plan big tuning changes before the raids open next month, but check tooltips before you spend points.
Shaman leveling rotation
Wowhead's Enhancement guide builds the rotation around auto attacks:
- Apply Flame Shock.
- Let auto attacks and your weapon imbue do the work.
- Stormstrike once you have it. Blizzard's version buffs your next Lightning Bolt, Chain Lightning or Earth Shock by 20%.
- Finish with Earth Shock.
- Refresh Lightning Shield between pulls. Wowhead calls it your most mana-efficient spell.
- In groups, use your totems or Call of the Elements from 20.
Low on mana? Wowhead's advice is to stop using shocks and let auto attacks carry. Extra spells add little to kill speed and a lot to drinking time.
Several enemies: apply Flame Shock to each and use Fire Nova at your Fire totem (after the Call of Fire quest). Wowhead notes it has a long cooldown and high mana cost, so don't plan big pulls around it. Earthbind Totem helps you kite out of a fight you didn't want.
Level-by-level milestones
| Level | What changes for a Shaman |
|---|---|
| 10 | First talent point |
| 20 | Totemic Recall and Call of the Elements |
| 22 | Totemic Call (renamed from Totemic Projection) |
| 25 | First Legacy Point from leveling |
| 30 | Call of the Spirits |
| 40 | Call of the Ancestors; Dual Spec |
| 45 / 60 | Legacy Points from leveling |
Professions for a leveling Shaman
Wowhead recommends Leatherworking for crafted gear while leveling, fed by Skinning or the Auction House. Leatherworking also makes the Camp Tent for rested XP. As a second crafting option, Wowhead suggests Enchanting for the Polished Driftwood Icon, one of the few extra tools against Enhancement's mana problems.
Add First Aid and Cooking.
Camp buffs and Legacy perks for Shamans
| Camp feature | Profession | Note for Shamans |
|---|---|---|
| Lodestone | Mining | Melee attack power for Enhancement |
| Camp Chair | Skinning | 2% crit |
| Sharpening Wheel | Blacksmithing | Strength; doesn't stack with your Strength of Earth Totem |
| Mana Well | Alchemy | Mana regeneration; very welcome for Enhancement |
| Fish Bowl | Fishing | 8% stats; doesn't stack with Blessing of Kings |
| Camp Tent | Leatherworking | Rested XP top-up |
A Basic Campfire takes up to three extra features, each player can add one, and you get the buffs by sitting or crafting nearby for a minute. Our camping guide lists them all.
Legacy perks. Wowhead's Shaman guide suggests Well Rested first. Five points there unlock Talented, which gives up to 5 talent points early. After that, take Thrill of Adventure, which restores up to 5% of your maximum health and mana after a killing blow. You earn Legacy Points at 25, 45 and 60 and from profession milestones.
Races for a Shaman in Forever
Forever's biggest Shaman news is Dwarf Shaman, one of six new race and class combinations, which gives the Alliance its own Shamans. Blizzard reworked the Dwarf racials. Dwarves lost Mace Specialization during the beta, and Blizzard's November 2 notes replaced its successor, Earth Fury, with Artisan's Precision: +1% hit chance with spells and attacks, whatever weapon you use. Stoneform now reduces physical damage taken instead of adding armor. Our best leveling class page compares all nine classes.
Common Shaman leveling mistakes
- Dropping every totem on every mob. With a 5-minute duration, place buff totems once and move on; don't recast for short fights.
- Letting imbues lapse. They last an hour now, so refresh them when you start a session.
- Pulling three or more mobs as Enhancement. Wowhead says Enhancement handles one or two at once.
- Spending mana on every pull. Auto attacks do most of your damage; save mana for heals.
- Forgetting the Call of Fire quest. No quest, no Fire Nova.
- Using Windfury Weapon with Windfury Totem. You don't benefit from the totem while your weapon has the matching imbue.
Shaman leveling checklist
- Enhancement talents from 10
- Two-handed axe or mace (baseline in Forever)
- Call of Fire quest for Fire Nova
- Set up Call of the Elements at 20
- Imbue your weapon each session; it lasts 60 minutes
- Leatherworking and Enchanting, or Skinning, plus First Aid and Cooking
- Dual Spec at 40
