WoW Forever Legacy Points: Challenges, Perks and Rewards
How the WoW Forever Legacy System works: unlock at level 25, all 65 challenges by category, the 16-point cap, every perk in the three trees and the rewards.
EnlargeWoW Forever's Legacy System is an account-wide progression track that sits beside your normal character power. You complete Legacy Challenges, each one gives you a Legacy Point, and every character on your account can spend those points on perks in three small talent trees. Points also unlock four account rewards at launch: a toy, a pet, a tabard and a mount.
This guide explains how you unlock it, every challenge category with its exact point count, all 21 perks Blizzard has described, the 16-point spending cap and how Hardcore is handled. Everything here comes from Blizzard's Legacy System article, checked on 4 November 2026. Where we give advice on what to pick, we say so.
How to unlock the Legacy System
The system opens the moment you earn your first Legacy Point. There are three quick ways to get it:
- Reach level 25 on any character. This is the route most players take.
- Reach 150 skill in a non-gathering primary profession, such as Tailoring, Blacksmithing or Alchemy.
- Explore the entire world map on one character.
Once it is available, click the Legacy icon (the shield on the menu bar) or press the default hotkey Y.
Because level 25 is the most common trigger, the system effectively starts in the middle of your first leveling run. Our WoW Forever leveling guide shows where level 25 falls in the zone order for each faction.
Legacy Challenges: all 65 and their points
Blizzard compares Legacy Challenges to achievements, but they are focused on character progression. There are 65 challenges in six categories, and every completed challenge is worth exactly one point.
| Category | Points | What counts |
|---|---|---|
| Classes | 27 | Reach level 25, 45 and 60 with each of the nine classes |
| Tradeskills | 18 | Reach 150, 225 and 300 skill in each non-gathering primary profession |
| Player vs. Player | 12 | Ranks 3, 7, 10, 13 and 14 (5); Exalted with each Battleground reputation (4); the week 4, 7 and 10 quests in the Field of Honor PvP Season's Journey (3) |
| Adventure | 2 | Explore the entire world map on one character; complete the Lord Valthalak dungeon set questline |
| Dungeons | 3 | Defeat the final boss of every dungeon in the 15–25, 26–45 and 46–60 level bands |
| Raids | 3 | Defeat Onyxia; defeat all 13 Hyjal Summit bosses; defeat all 8 Barrow Deeps bosses |
A few details matter here:
- Class points stack across alts. Each class gives three points, so a level 60 character of every class would add up to 27.
- Dungeon points need every final boss in a band, not just one dungeon. Blizzard did not publish which dungeons sit in each band. So it is not yet confirmed which of the new dungeons, such as the Hall of Thanes (13–18) or the Ruins of Lordaeron (15–20), count toward the 15–25 band.
- PvP is the biggest single-character category, with 12 points available without rolling an alt.
How many points one character can earn
The key design rule is that you never have to level alts. Blizzard's breakdown for one character is:
| Source | Points on one character |
|---|---|
| Leveling one class to 25, 45 and 60 | 3 |
| Two primary professions to 150, 225 and 300 | up to 6 |
| PvP ranks, reputations and season quests | up to 12 |
| Adventure | 2 |
| Dungeons and raids | 6 |
| Total | up to 29 |
At launch you can spend up to 16 points on each character. Blizzard says the cap does two jobs: new players are not left hopelessly behind veterans, and 16 is reachable on a single character, so alts are optional. In practice, a player who levels one character to 60, raises two crafting professions and clears the dungeon bands can reach the cap without touching PvP.
The cap was tested on the beta before launch; Wowhead covered the 16-point test alongside a dungeon experience change.
Legacy Perks: the three trees
Points are earned by the account but spent per character. Each character chooses its own perks, independently of the others, so a gatherer alt and a PvP main can be set up differently. There are three trees.
Professions
| Perk | What it does |
|---|---|
| Working Overtime | Higher chance to gain a skill point in all tradeskills, including class skills such as Lockpicking |
| Bountiful Harvest | Find additional Scarce resources when mining, herbing or skinning |
| Bartering | Lower gold prices on vendor items |
| Performance Bonus | Sometimes gain extra Merchant's Favor from the Azeroth Commerce Authority (Alliance) or Durotar Supply and Logistics (Horde) |
| Master Chef | Chance for cooking recipes to produce extra results |
| Luremaster | Chance to fish up extra fish |
| Dedicated Study | A daily cooldown that speeds up tradeskill progress, or gives free Elemental Essences once all your skills are at 300 |
Blizzard calls the two new merchant factions a major source of new tradeskill activities, so Performance Bonus is aimed at players who plan to craft a lot.
Adventure
| Perk | What it does |
|---|---|
| Well Rested | Raises the rested experience cap and makes rested experience build faster |
| Thrill of Adventure | Restores a little health and mana after every non-trivial kill |
| High Alert | Better stealth detection outside battlegrounds |
| Field Guide | Shortens the 1-hour cooldown on placing camping features |
| Field Medicine | Shorter Recently Bandaged debuff (not in dungeons, raids or battlegrounds) |
| Talented | Unlock talent points up to 5 levels earlier than normal |
| Frequent Flier | Cheaper and faster flights |
Well Rested and Field Guide both tie into Forever's camping system. Our camping and Boosted Rest guide explains how rested experience and camp placement work.
Resourcefulness
| Perk | What it does |
|---|---|
| Gourmand | Longer food buffs |
| The Quick and the Dead | Faster corpse runs, and party and raid buffs are free after you resurrect |
| Reinforce | Less durability damage when you die |
| For Great Honor | More Honor from PvP |
| Permanence | Longer party, raid and camping buffs |
| Diplomat | More reputation gains |
| Reagent Economy | Class abilities stop needing purchasable reagents, and tier 1 camping features need no materials |
Blizzard has not published how many points each perk costs, how many ranks a perk has or how the trees are laid out. We will add that when it is confirmed in game rather than guess.
Which perks to take for leveling (our view)
This is editorial judgment based on Blizzard's descriptions, not a tested ranking. If your goal is a faster alt or a smoother second character, the Adventure tree has the most direct leveling value:
- Talented gives you talent points up to five levels early, so key talents come online sooner.
- Well Rested means more rested experience banked between sessions, which is pure bonus experience.
- Thrill of Adventure reduces downtime between pulls, especially for classes that eat and drink a lot.
- Frequent Flier saves time and gold on every flight path once your route uses them.
From Resourcefulness, The Quick and the Dead and Reinforce make deaths cheaper, and Reagent Economy removes a recurring vendor cost for classes that use reagents. Gatherers should look at Bountiful Harvest and Working Overtime first.
Perks only change how comfortable leveling feels. The biggest time sink is still knowing where to go next. A route addon removes that problem, and we compare the options in RestedXP vs Questie.
Legacy Rewards
Your account's total Legacy Points also unlock cosmetic rewards. Spending points on perks is a separate track. At launch there are four:
- Replica Ironforge Air Rifle, a toy for shootouts with other players. It stuns them and keeps score.
- Spectral Bear Cub, a pet exclusive to the Legacy System, inspired by the Dwarven Hunter and his companion in the Forever cinematic.
- Spectral Bear Tabard, an exclusive tabard.
- Reins of the Spectral Bear, an exclusive spectral mount.
Blizzard did not say how many account points each reward needs. New rewards are planned with each content update.
Hardcore and the Legacy System
Hardcore is not live at launch. When it arrives, these rules apply:
- Challenges completed on Normal, PvP, Roleplay or Roleplay PvP do not show up in Hardcore.
- A challenge earned in Hardcore counts on every other ruleset.
- PvP challenges cannot be completed in Hardcore, so Blizzard will add 12 Hardcore-specific challenges at Hardcore's launch.
If you are deciding where to roll your first character, our rulesets guide covers how Legacy and collections carry over between rulesets.
What comes next
Blizzard calls the system "in its infancy". The plan is new challenges in every content release, new perks inside the existing trees first and new trees later. There will also be more Hardcore-specific challenges and perks, and more rewards. Expect the 16-point cap to change as more challenges arrive, though Blizzard has not given numbers.
Frequently asked questions
How do you unlock the Legacy System in WoW Forever?
You unlock it with your first Legacy Point. For most players that is when their first character reaches level 25, but reaching 150 in a non-gathering primary profession or exploring the entire world map also works. Open it with the shield icon on the menu bar or the default Y key.
How many Legacy Points can you spend on one character?
At launch each character can spend up to 16 Legacy Points. Blizzard says a single character can earn up to 29 points on its own, so you never have to level an alt to reach the cap.
Are Legacy Points account-wide?
Yes. Legacy Points are earned for your whole Battle.net account and every non-Hardcore character can spend them. Each character spends its points independently, so two characters can pick completely different perks.
Which Legacy Perks help leveling the most?
For leveling, the Adventure tree is the obvious place to look: Well Rested raises the rested experience cap and speeds up how fast it builds, Talented unlocks talent points up to five levels early, Thrill of Adventure returns some health and mana after non-trivial kills and Frequent Flier makes flights cheaper and faster. This is our reading of Blizzard's perk descriptions, not a tested ranking.
Do Legacy Points work in Hardcore?
Not the other way round. Hardcore is not available at launch, and when it arrives, challenges completed on other rulesets will not show up in Hardcore. A challenge earned in Hardcore counts on every other ruleset, and Blizzard plans 12 Hardcore-specific challenges because PvP challenges cannot be done there.
