Balance Druid Leveling in WoW Forever: Talents, Rotation and Mana
Level a Balance Druid in WoW Forever: cheap Wrath, baseline Omen of Clarity, Insect Swarm, Eclipse, Starfire +40% on November 2, rotation and mana tips.
EnlargeBalance Druid leveling in WoW Forever finally has a real rotation. Blizzard made Wrath cheap, made Omen of Clarity baseline, moved Insect Swarm into Balance as a 16-point talent and added Eclipse, which turns Wrath casts into faster Starfires. On 2 November Starfire's base damage rose about 40%. Our Druid leveling guide still picks Feral as the lowest-downtime spec, and rates Balance "good". This page is for Druids who want to level as casters: what changed, a rotation, and how to handle mana.
What Forever changed for Balance
Baseline, for every Druid (class deep dive):
- Wrath costs far less Mana and deals less damage to match. On 8 October Blizzard evened out ranks 1–6 so every new rank is an upgrade (8 October notes).
- Omen of Clarity is baseline at level 20, and Wrath never uses up Clearcasting.
- Nature's Grasp is baseline at level 10 and works indoors and while shapeshifted.
- Entangling Roots works indoors. Hurricane has no cooldown.
- Starfire got about 40% more base damage on 2 November (2 November notes).
- Thorns was returned to Vanilla base damage with a 6% spell power ratio on 8 October. It helps, but don't build around it.
Balance talents (class deep dive and later notes):
- Improved Wrath also cuts Wrath's Mana cost. Moonglow (row 2) cuts the cost of every damaging spell.
- Genesis (row 1): 2/4/6/8/10% more periodic damage and healing since 2 November (was 1–5%).
- Nature's Majesty adds crit chance to spells and melee attacks. Nature's Reach adds range and hit chance to all damaging spells.
- Improved Moonfire now needs only 2 points.
- Nature's Splendor (11-point milestone) lengthens Moonfire, Insect Swarm, Rejuvenation and Regrowth.
- Insect Swarm (16-point milestone): Nature damage over 12 seconds and a lower hit chance for the target. Since the 15 October notes multiple swarms no longer stack the hit reduction.
- Improved Entangling Roots makes Roots deal much more damage and break less easily. Overgrowth lets you root up to 3 targets at once.
- Eclipse: each Wrath cuts the cast time of your next 2 Starfires, stacking up to 4 charges.
- Nature's Grace now gives 3 seconds of spell haste and a shorter global cooldown.
- Vengeance and Moonfury apply to all your damaging spells.
- Moonkin Form: its crit aura raises all critical strikes again since 2 November and is exclusive with Leader of the Pack. You can cast every non-healing spell in it, and Omen of Clarity triggers twice as often.
Balance leveling rotation
- Open with Moonfire, Insect Swarm once you have it. DoTs gain from Genesis, so apply them first on anything that lives longer than a few seconds.
- Cast Wrath to build Eclipse. Wrath is cheap, so it's your filler.
- Spend Eclipse on Starfire. Faster Starfires after the November 2 buff are your big hits. A Clearcasting proc should go to Starfire, since Wrath can't use it.
- Root, step back, keep casting. Entangling Roots plus Improved Entangling Roots handles melee mobs. Use Nature's Grasp before a pull you expect to go wrong.
- On two or three mobs: Overgrowth lets you root all of them. Hurricane has no cooldown, but it's expensive, so save it for pulls that justify it.
Before 16 points in Balance you don't have Insect Swarm or the big talents, so the first levels play like a caster with Moonfire, Wrath and Roots. Cat Form with baseline Omen of Clarity is a fine way to finish low-health mobs and save Mana.
Mana and downtime
Mana is Balance's real cost. The cheap Wrath, Moonglow, Improved Wrath and Omen of Clarity all help, but you will drink more than a Feral Druid. To cut downtime:
- Let DoTs and Roots do the work on mobs that will die anyway, and don't Starfire a mob on 15% health.
- Finish weak mobs in Cat Form. Cat attacks use Energy, not Mana, and potions now work in every form.
- Plan your rested XP and camping. Our camping guide covers the camp buffs, but Moonkin Form's crit aura doesn't stack with the Camp Chair.
Balance or Feral?
| Balance | Feral | |
|---|---|---|
| Downtime | Drinking every few pulls | Very low |
| Dangerous pulls | Roots, Overgrowth, range | Bear Form, self-healing |
| Group value | Moonkin crit aura, ranged damage | Tank or melee damage |
| Best time to pick | From 16 points (Insect Swarm) | From level 10 |
Pick Balance if you enjoy casters and play carefully. From level 40, Dual Specialization lets you keep Balance for groups and Feral for questing, or the other way round. See the talents and dual spec guide. The public beta was capped at level 30, so 30–60 Balance hasn't been tested on live servers yet.
Where RestedXP fits
A caster with downtime gains most from not wasting travel. RestedXP's Forever Speedrun routes cover levels 1–35 now, with 35–60 after launch. The RestedXP review explains the guides, and the discount code page has the current 10% offer.
Frequently asked questions
Is Balance druid good for leveling in WoW Forever?
It is viable and much better than in Classic. Wrath is cheap, Omen of Clarity is baseline from level 20, Insect Swarm is a 16-point talent, Eclipse speeds up Starfire, and Starfire's base damage rose about 40% on November 2. Feral is still the lower-downtime choice because it barely needs to drink.
Does Wrath trigger Omen of Clarity in WoW Forever?
Wrath can't use up Clearcasting. Blizzard's deep dive says the Clearcasting effect is never consumed by Wrath because Wrath is so cheap, so the free cast goes to a more expensive spell like Starfire. Omen of Clarity is baseline for every Druid at level 20.
When do Balance druids get Moonkin Form in WoW Forever?
Moonkin Form is still the deep Balance talent. In Forever its crit aura again raises all types of critical strikes (November 2), it is exclusive with Leader of the Pack, all non-healing spells can be cast in it, and Omen of Clarity triggers twice as often while it is active.
Can Balance druids root more than one target?
Yes, with the Overgrowth talent, which lets up to 3 targets have your Entangling Roots at once. Entangling Roots can also be cast indoors in Forever, and Improved Entangling Roots makes it deal much more damage and break less easily.
What changed for Balance in the November 2 notes?
Starfire's base damage rose by about 40%, Genesis now increases periodic damage and healing by 2–10% (was 1–5%), and Moonkin Form's crit bonus applies to all critical strikes again and is exclusive with Leader of the Pack.
