Gold While Leveling in WoW Forever: Training Costs, Mount and a Budget
How much gold you need while leveling in WoW Forever: 206–207g for class training, 100g reported for riding at 40, a realistic budget and how to earn it.
EnlargeThe two big gold costs while leveling in WoW Forever are class training and your mount. Blizzard's November 2 notes put class training from 1 to 60 at about 206–207 gold for every class. Beta players reported 100 gold for riding at level 40, with the mount included. Blizzard hasn't published riding prices, so treat that as reported. A rough budget: about 1,300 gold by 60 if you buy the faster riding too, with 100 of it needed at level 40. The rest of this page is how to get there without stopping to farm.

Your leveling gold budget
| Cost | Amount | How sure |
|---|---|---|
| Class training, 1–60 | About 206–207 gold in total (Warlocks less, to cover Grimoires) | Blizzard, 2 November |
| Apprentice riding at 40, mount included | 100 gold | Reported by beta players; Blizzard confirmed the mount comes with training |
| Reputation discount | 10% off riding at Honored with your faction | Warcraft Tavern |
| Journeyman riding at 60 | 1,000 gold | Warcraft Tavern; not published by Blizzard |
| Respecs | Rise quickly after each reset, fall once per week | Blizzard (via TechRadar); no prices published |
Paladins and Warlocks get class mounts through quests, so their level 40 cost is mostly training. Our mounts and riding guide lists every racial riding trainer. Respecs can get expensive; see talents and dual spec.
Our arithmetic on the figures above: at 40 you need 100 gold for riding on top of the training you've paid along the way (Blizzard only published the 1–60 training total, not a per-level split). By 60, training plus both riding ranks comes to about 1,300 gold.
How to have the gold without farming
- Take two gathering professions. Skinning, Mining and Herbalism sell from day one and cost nothing to level. Our professions guide has the best picks by class.
- Sell to players, not vendors, for anything other than grays. Leather, ore, herbs and cloth usually sell well on a fresh launch, when many players are leveling professions.
- Vendor every gray item. It adds up over 60 levels.
- Don't buy gear upgrades on the Auction House before 40 unless they're cheap and big. Quest rewards and dungeon drops replace them fast.
- Train what you use. Keep your main attacks current, but you can delay ranks of spells you rarely press. Blizzard's November 2 notes removed the low-rank penalty from talent procs (except Mage Blizzard), so an older rank of a utility spell is fine for a while.
- Don't log out with bags full. Selling on the way saves trips.
- Use Legacy perks. Frequent Flier makes flights cheaper and faster. See our Legacy guide.
Gathering professions by class
| Class | Gathering pick | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Hunter, Rogue, Druid | Skinning + Mining or Herbalism | You kill many beasts anyway |
| Warrior, Paladin | Mining + Skinning | Mining feeds Blacksmithing later |
| Mage, Priest, Warlock | Herbalism + Mining or Skinning | Herbs sell; cloth comes from mobs anyway |
| Shaman | Skinning + Mining | Melee kills on beasts all day |
These are practical picks, not rules. Our professions guide covers crafting and camp features.
Things that cost gold you don't need to spend
- Respeccing often. Blizzard said respec costs climb quickly at launch. Pick one leveling spec.
- Overpaying for bags. Buy them when the price is reasonable, and note that since 2 November new bags no longer auto-equip, so equip them yourself.
- Repair costs from deaths. Every death costs time and gold. Our fastest way to level covers avoiding them.
Don't buy gold
Buying gold from third parties breaks Blizzard's rules and risks your account. Blizzard's own Forever changes, such as the Improved Blizzard slow cap for Mages, were partly aimed at gold farmers. Leveling efficiently pays for your training and mount on its own.
