WoW Forever Camping Guide: Camp Features, Buffs and Boosted Rest
How camping works in WoW Forever: every profession's camp feature and buff, the Camp Tent and Boosted Rest, stacking rules and tier 2 and 3 unlocks.
EnlargeCamping in WoW Forever turns a Cooking campfire into a shared rest stop. You light a Basic Campfire, and you and nearby players each add one profession-crafted camp feature to it. Anyone who sits or crafts at the fire for one minute gets that feature's benefit. Most features give a one-hour buff that copies a class buff, such as Strength, Intellect, Spirit, Stamina or 8% stats. The Leatherworking Camp Tent tops up your rested experience instead. After a tent tops you up, a debuff called Boosted Rest stops you using another tent for one hour.
This guide explains how to unlock camping, lists every profession's camp feature, covers which buffs are worth chasing while leveling and fixes the usual "my camp buff isn't working" problems.

How camping works in 60 seconds
- Someone lights a campfire. A Basic Campfire is a Cooking item available from Cooking skill 1. It allows cooking and room for up to three camp features.
- Each player adds one feature. Blizzard is clear that each player can contribute one object. Three features means three different people, or upgrading to a bigger campfire.
- Sit or craft for one minute. Blizzard says players sitting or crafting at the campsite for at least one minute get the benefits of the other features.
- Enjoy the buff for an hour. Buff features last one hour. All camp features share a one-hour cooldown, so you can place one feature an hour.
- Watch for class-buff overlap. Camp buffs are versions of class buffs and don't stack with the matching class buff.
Unlocking camping: the level 5 quest and your first campfire
Blizzard says a simple quest early in your adventure introduces camping. Wowhead names it: The Great Outdoors, offered at about level 5. Do a /sit at the campfire next to the quest giver, and the quest sends you to the nearest town to train Cooking.
- Learn Cooking. The Basic Campfire is a Cooking recipe at skill 1. Wowhead says the reagents (Simple Wood and Flint and Tinder) are sold by the Cooking trainer, so you can make one straight away.
- Pick up the profession "101" quests. Wowhead reports that after the camping introduction you get a quest for each profession you have trained. Hand it in to that profession's trainer to learn its first camp feature.
- Reach skill 20 to place it. Blizzard says a profession's first campsite items become available at skill 20, through starter-zone quests or the profession trainer. You need that skill to place a feature, but Wowhead notes that anyone can receive the benefit.
Crafting a camp feature gives you two, and they are used up when placed. Basic features cost cheap starting-zone materials such as Light Leather, Copper Bars or Linen.
Every camp feature and its buff
The first-tier features, from Blizzard's table (the Lodestone row comes from Wowhead, not Blizzard). All need skill 20 in their profession and a campfire nearby.
| Profession | Camp feature | Benefit for players sitting nearby | Doesn't stack with |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cooking (skill 1) | Basic Campfire | Cooking, plus up to 3 more camp features | — |
| Alchemy | Mana Well | 10–29 mana every 5 seconds (by level) | Blessing of Wisdom |
| Blacksmithing | Sharpening Wheel | 6–34 Strength (by level) | Strength of Earth Totem |
| Enchanting | Enchanted Lute | Armor, all stats and all resistances (by level) | Mark of the Wild |
| Engineering | Reagent Bot | A vendor selling reagents | — |
| Herbalism | Incense Candle | 2–25 Intellect (by level) | Arcane Intellect |
| Leatherworking | Camp Tent | Raises rested XP to 5% of a level | — |
| Mining | Lodestone | Melee attack power | Blessing of Might |
| Skinning | Camp Chair | 2% critical strike with spells and attacks | Moonkin Aura |
| Tailoring | Faction Banner | 14–32 Spirit, your faction only (by level) | Divine Spirit |
| First Aid | First Aid Kit | 3–56 Stamina (by level) | Power Word: Fortitude |
| Fishing | Fish Bowl | 8% increased stats | Blessing of Kings |
Higher tiers: same buff, extra utility
Wowhead's overview lists three tiers for each profession. Tier 2 needs skill 140, tier 3 needs skill 300, and each higher tier can be placed over the lower one to replace it. Higher tiers keep the same buff and add something:
| Profession | Tier 2 (skill 140) | Tier 3 (skill 300) |
|---|---|---|
| Alchemy | Fermenter (makes certain reagents) | Alchemy Laboratory |
| Blacksmithing | Anvil | Master Forge |
| Enchanting | Arcane Salvager (more efficient disenchanting) | Arcane Forge |
| Engineering | Repair Bot (reagents and repairs) | Anarchist's Workbench |
| Herbalism | Greenhouse (grows herbs from seeds) | Seed Hybridizer |
| Leatherworking | Tanning Rack | Sewing Machine |
| Mining | Rock Garden (spawns a mining node over time) | Molten Foundry |
| Skinning | Field Guide (grants Track Beasts) | Trapper's Workbench |
| Tailoring | Spinning Wheel | Loom |
| Fishing | Fishing Rack (uncommon fish for 1 hour) | Fishing Hut (rare fish for 1 hour) |
Blizzard says items that need skill 140 or higher come from drops in dungeons and raids, as Blueprint recipes. If you want a Repair Bot or an Anvil in the field, run the dungeons for your level. Our dungeons page lists what is known about each one.
Bigger campfires
Cooking is the profession that grows the camp. Wowhead lists a Journeyman Campfire at Cooking 90 (up to five features) and an Expert Campfire at Cooking 200 (up to ten). At Cooking 140, Cookie's Feast lays out Stamina food. Campfires have a five-minute cooldown of their own, separate from the one-hour feature cooldown.
The Camp Tent and Boosted Rest explained
Rested experience doubles the XP you get from kills until it runs out. In Forever you normally build it by logging out in an inn or a city. The Leatherworking Camp Tent adds a way to build it in the field.
- What the tent does. Blizzard: it "allows you and others sitting nearby to increase Rested experience by 5% of a level. No effect if Rested experience already exceeds that value." It tops you up to 5% of your current level; it doesn't add 5% on top.
- What Boosted Rest does. Once a tent tops you up, you get Boosted Rest. The tooltip reads: "You cannot gain more rested experience from a Camp Tent for 1 hour." It is a lockout timer, not a buff that raises XP.
- How to use it well. Sit at a tent when your rested bar is empty or almost empty, then go and spend it. Using a tent while you still have plenty of rested XP wastes it, because it only fills you to 5%.
At low levels 5% of a level is a few kills. At higher levels it adds up: 5% every hour you camp is a real bonus for a solo leveler, and free for everyone sitting at the fire.
If you level with Legacy perks, the Well Rested perk raises how much rested XP you can gain and the rested cap, which Blizzard pitches at players leveling alts. Our fastest way to level page shows where rested XP, food and the tent fit in a full XP plan.
"Boosted Rest not working": a troubleshooting checklist
Most "broken" camp buffs come from one of these:
| What you see | Likely reason | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| Tent gave no rested XP | You already had more than 5% of a level rested | Spend rested XP first, then use the tent |
| Tent gave no rested XP | Boosted Rest is still on you | Wait out the 1-hour lockout |
| No buff at all | You haven't sat or crafted at the fire for a full minute | /sit and wait, or craft something at the fire |
| Can't place a feature | Your profession skill is below what that feature needs | Level the profession, or ask a friend to place it |
| Can't place a feature | The one-hour shared camp feature cooldown is running | Place features in a rotation within your group |
| Campfire full | A Basic Campfire takes only three features | Upgrade with Cooking 90 or 200, or light a second fire |
| Buff appears, then nothing changes | The matching class buff is already on you | Keep whichever is stronger; they don't stack |
| Faction Banner gives no Spirit | The banner only buffs its own faction | Use another feature |
Which camp buffs matter for leveling?
Camping is most valuable for solo players who stop to drink, eat or bandage anyway. Pick features by what your class lacks:
| You play | Best camp features to look for | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Warrior, Rogue, Feral Druid, Enhancement Shaman, Retribution Paladin | Lodestone, Sharpening Wheel, Camp Chair | Melee attack power, Strength and crit |
| Hunter | Camp Chair, Fish Bowl, First Aid Kit | Crit and stats; Lodestone is melee AP only |
| Mage, Warlock, Shadow Priest, Elemental Shaman | Mana Well, Incense Candle, Faction Banner | Less drinking between pulls |
| Anyone on a long session | Camp Tent | Rested XP top-up every hour |
| Anyone grouped with no Paladin or Druid | Fish Bowl, Enchanted Lute | Stand-ins for Kings and Mark of the Wild |
Our class guides suggest a camp loadout for each class: Hunter, Warlock, Mage, Warrior, Paladin, Rogue, Priest, Shaman and Druid.
Choosing professions with camping in mind
Your two primary professions decide which features you can place, and your secondary professions add more. Every character can learn Cooking, Fishing and First Aid, and all three have a camp feature. A useful pattern while leveling:
- Cooking for everyone. It is the only way to light your own campfire, and Forever's crafted food can give a small XP bonus as well as stats, according to Blizzard. Our XP buffs guide shows how food, camp buffs and the Cozy Sleeping Bag stack.
- First Aid and Fishing for free extras. The First Aid Kit (Stamina) and Fish Bowl (8% stats) don't cost a primary profession slot.
- A gathering profession that fits your class. Skinning gives the Camp Chair (crit) and Mining gives the Lodestone (melee AP), and both pay for themselves while you level.

Legacy perks that affect camping
Wowhead's overview lists Legacy perks that touch camping. Blizzard has not published the full perk list, so treat these as beta-era names and values:
| Perk | Effect reported by Wowhead |
|---|---|
| Reagent Economy | Class abilities stop needing vendor reagents, and tier 1 camp features cost no reagents to craft |
| Field Guide (3 ranks) | Lower cooldown on adding camp features (8% per rank) |
| Permanence (2 ranks) | Long-duration party buffs and camp rest benefits last 50% longer |
Camping etiquette and safety
Blizzard warns that "some places in Azeroth are better suited to a quiet rest than others". Camp where monsters don't patrol and, on a PvP ruleset, away from contested roads. Set up near a quest hub you are already using, so more passing players can add a feature. If someone adds a feature to your fire, return the favor next hour: the shared cooldown means you can only offer one feature an hour.
Frequently asked questions
How do you unlock camping in WoW Forever?
Take the introductory camping quest (Wowhead names it The Great Outdoors, at about level 5), sit at its campfire, then train Cooking. The Basic Campfire is a Cooking recipe from skill 1. Each profession's first camp feature needs skill 20 in that profession.
What is Boosted Rest in WoW Forever?
Boosted Rest is the debuff you get after a Camp Tent tops up your rested experience. Its tooltip says you cannot gain more rested experience from a Camp Tent for 1 hour. It does not increase XP itself.
Why is the Camp Tent not giving me rested XP?
Either you already have more than 5% of a level stored as rested XP, or Boosted Rest is still active from a previous tent. Spend your rested XP and wait out the one-hour lockout, then sit at a tent again.
How long do camp buffs last?
Camp buffs last one hour. To get them, you sit or craft near the campfire for at least one minute. All camp features share a one-hour cooldown for the player placing them.
How many camp features can a campfire hold?
A Basic Campfire holds up to three, and each player can add one. Wowhead lists a Journeyman Campfire (Cooking 90) for five and an Expert Campfire (Cooking 200) for ten.
Do camp buffs stack with class buffs?
No. Blizzard says camp buffs are variants of class buffs and are exclusive with them. For example, the Fish Bowl doesn't stack with Blessing of Kings, and the First Aid Kit doesn't stack with Power Word: Fortitude.
Do I need the profession to benefit from a camp feature?
No. You need the profession and its skill level to place a feature, but anyone sitting nearby gets the benefit. The Faction Banner only buffs players of the same faction.
Which camp features are best for leveling?
The Camp Tent's rested XP top-up helps every class. Melee classes should look for the Lodestone, Sharpening Wheel and Camp Chair. Casters want the Mana Well, Incense Candle and Faction Banner to cut drinking time.
