WoW Forever XP Buffs: Every Experience Bonus and How to Stack Them
Every WoW Forever XP buff: rested XP, Well Rested, Camp Tent, food, the Cozy Sleeping Bag and group XP, with sourced numbers and the best stacking order.
EnlargeWoW Forever XP buffs come from six places: rested XP, the Legacy perk Well Rested, the Leatherworking Camp Tent, crafted food, the Cozy Sleeping Bag and grouping. None of them changes the XP curve. Reaching 60 still takes 4,084,700 XP, exactly as in Classic. What Forever adds is more ways to earn bonus XP on every kill. This page lists each buff with its source, how long it lasts, whether it survives death and the order to stack them before a session.
Mechanics that Blizzard has confirmed are linked to Blizzard's announcements and the beta development notes. Exact percentages that Blizzard hasn't published come from Warcraft Tavern's experience guide, checked on 4 November 2026, and are marked "reported."

There is no XP potion, no reduced XP curve and no confirmed XP bonus for Invite-A-Friend launch codes. More on those in the myths section below.
Rested XP: the biggest XP buff in Forever
Rested XP doubles the experience you get from killing monsters until the pool is spent. It does not double quest turn-ins. You build it while logged out in an inn or a capital city, or while in a rested area. Warcraft Tavern reports the rate as 5% of a level every 8 hours, capped at 150% of a level, which takes about ten days to fill from empty.
What that means in practice:
- Log out in an inn every time. Logging out in the open world builds rested XP at a quarter of the speed in Classic, and Forever hasn't changed that. Our fastest way to level page covers when a hearth is worth it.
- Spend rested XP on kills, not on turn-ins. Rested XP burns only on kills, so a session with lots of killing early on uses it best.
- Play alts in rotation. A character parked at an inn for a week starts its next session with most of a level of doubled kill XP.
Well Rested: the Legacy perk that boosts rested XP
Blizzard's Legacy Points article describes Well Rested as a perk that "increases the rested experience cap and allows rested experience to accumulate faster." Warcraft Tavern reports +4% per rank to both the build rate and the cap. Legacy Points unlock once one character on your account reaches level 25, so Well Rested is mainly a buff for your second and later characters. Our Legacy Points guide explains the spending cap and the other leveling perks, such as Talented and Frequent Flier.
Don't confuse it with the Well-Rested stacks from the Cozy Sleeping Bag. They share a name but are different buffs.
Camp Tent and Boosted Rest
The Camp Tent is a Leatherworking camp feature, crafted at skill 20 and placed at a campfire. Blizzard's camping article says it "allows you and others sitting nearby to increase Rested experience by 5% of a level. No effect if Rested experience already exceeds that value." You have to sit at the camp for one minute to get it. Afterwards a Boosted Rest debuff stops you from using another tent for one hour.
The tent tops you up to 5% of a level. It doesn't add 5% on top of what you have. Use it when your rested bar is empty or nearly empty. The camping and Boosted Rest guide lists every other camp feature, most of which copy class buffs rather than give XP.
Well Fed: food that gives XP
Blizzard's Deep Dive recap says crafted food can grant "a small experience bonus." Warcraft Tavern reports the buff as 5% more XP from kills for about 15 minutes, and says it is lost when you die. Blizzard hasn't published the figure, so check the food's tooltip before you rely on it.
Two practical points:
- Eat before a pull streak, not before a long flight. The buff runs out on its timer whether you're killing or not.
- Keep a stack in your bags. You can eat while sitting on a sleeping bag or at a campfire, so all three buffs can be refreshed together. Forever's professions guide shows where Cooking fits while leveling.
The Cozy Sleeping Bag
The Cozy Sleeping Bag returns from Season of Discovery. According to Warcraft Tavern's walkthrough, you unroll it anywhere outside a rested area. Each minute you lie on it gives one stack of Well-Rested, +1% XP, up to three stacks (+3%). The buff survives death. While you lie on the bag, it counts as a rested area. Party members can use your bag, and it has a one-hour cooldown.
How to get it. You must be level 14 or higher. The chain visits five zones on both continents:
| Step | Alliance | Horde |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Westfall: Nailed Plank at the Alexston Farmstead (37, 50) | The Barrens: Burned-Out Remains (46, 74) |
| 2 | The Barrens: Burned-Out Remains (46, 74) | Westfall: Nailed Plank at the Alexston Farmstead (37, 50) |
| 3 | Stonetalon Mountains: Pocket Litter at a hillside camp near Sun Rock Retreat, then a Mound of Dirt to the east | Same |
| 4 | Loch Modan: Carved Figurine on a ledge of the Stonewrought Dam (49, 12) | Same; Warcraft Tavern warns of level 30 guards on the way |
| 5 | Hillsbrad Foothills: Messenger Bag and Hastily Rolled-Up Satchel on top of the Thoradin Wall | Same |
The chain also rewards Student Fodder, which fully heals you. In Forever it doesn't give the XP bonus it gave in Season of Discovery. Do the steps whenever your route passes each zone rather than as one trip.
Group XP and the October 8 dungeon changes
Grouping changes how kill XP is shared. Warcraft Tavern reports that a full 5-player group splits each kill's XP five ways and then applies a ×1.4 group bonus, so each player gets 28% of the solo value. A group kills much faster, so the total XP per hour can still be higher.
Blizzard changed two things in October:
- 1 October: dungeon quests now "reward 50% less extra experience beyond normal quest values."
- 8 October: "the experience earned from killing creatures in dungeons has been increased by approximately 20%." Party XP also went back to Classic Era's per-player calculation, so you get no XP if someone in the group is far above your level.
Both are in Blizzard's beta development notes. Being boosted by a level-60 friend therefore doesn't pay. Our dungeon vs questing guide explains when a run is worth it, and duo leveling covers two-player XP.
Myths: what is not an XP buff in WoW Forever
- "The XP curve is shorter." It isn't. Wowhead retracted its early report of reduced experience requirements. Every level needs the same XP as in Classic.
- "Invite-A-Friend codes give bonus XP." Blizzard's pre-purchase page describes launch codes that let a friend play from 4 to 11 November 2026 (Pacific time). It mentions no XP bonus.
- "Quest XP is doubled by rested." Only kill XP is. Warcraft Tavern also notes that quests more than five levels below you give 10–20% less XP for each extra level, so skipping grey quests is a buff of its own.
How to stack XP buffs before a session
- Log in rested. Your last session should have ended at an inn or city.
- At your first camp, sit for one minute at a Camp Tent if your rested bar is nearly empty.
- Unroll the Cozy Sleeping Bag at the same camp and stay on it for three minutes for three stacks.
- Eat crafted food while lying on the bag so Well Fed starts as you get up.
- Pull continuously while food and rested XP are running. Do quest turn-ins in batches between kill streaks.
- End the session at an inn.
Sources disagree on whether these percentages add together or multiply, and Blizzard hasn't said, so we haven't published a combined total.

Frequently asked questions
What XP buffs are there in WoW Forever?
Rested XP (doubles kill XP), the Legacy perk Well Rested (more and faster rested XP), the Leatherworking Camp Tent (tops rested XP up to 5% of a level), crafted food (a small kill-XP bonus), the Cozy Sleeping Bag (up to 3% more XP) and the group kill-XP bonus. Dungeon kill XP was also raised about 20% on October 8.
Does food give XP in WoW Forever?
Yes. Blizzard says crafted food can give a small experience bonus. Warcraft Tavern reports it as Well Fed: 5% more XP from kills for about 15 minutes, lost if you die. Check the tooltip in game, because Blizzard has not published the exact number.
Do WoW Forever XP buffs work on quest XP?
Rested XP only doubles XP from kills; quest turn-ins are not doubled. Warcraft Tavern also lists the food buff as a kill-XP bonus. It lists the Cozy Sleeping Bag buff as a general experience bonus, but that has not been confirmed by Blizzard.
How do I get the Cozy Sleeping Bag in WoW Forever?
Do the quest chain that starts at level 14 at the Alexston Farmstead in Westfall (Alliance) or the Burned-Out Remains in the southern Barrens (Horde). It visits Westfall, the Barrens, Stonetalon Mountains, Loch Modan and Hillsbrad Foothills and ends on the Thoradin Wall, according to Warcraft Tavern's walkthrough.
Is the WoW Forever XP curve reduced?
No. Wowhead retracted its early report that experience requirements were reduced. The XP needed per level matches Classic: 4,084,700 XP from 1 to 60. The speed-ups in Forever come from buffs, rested XP and quest density, not a shorter curve.
Do Invite-A-Friend launch codes give bonus XP?
Blizzard's pre-purchase page describes launch codes that let a friend play 4–11 November 2026 (Pacific time), but it does not mention any experience bonus. Don't plan around one unless Blizzard announces it.
