How to Install, Import and Use RestedXP in WoW Forever
Install RestedXP for WoW Forever, link your Battle.net ID, import your paid guide and pick the right chapter. Commands, key settings and addon conflicts.
EnlargeTo use RestedXP in WoW Forever: install the free RestedXP Guide addon (the WoW Forever file), log in and pick your chapter. If you bought the full guide, add your Battle.net ID to your RestedXP account, export the guide from your downloads and paste it into the addon's "Import guide" window. The free routes for levels 1–20 work as soon as the addon is installed; only the paid guide needs the import. The whole setup takes about five minutes.
Already imported the paid guide before 3 November? RestedXP's major Forever update of 3 November needs a fresh import: update the addon, then purge, reload and import the new guide string. The steps are below. On launch day, download your guide from account.restedxp.com, which RestedXP calls the quickest route when its site is busy.
This guide covers WoW Forever 1.60.1 and RestedXP Guide v4.11.29 (released 29 October 2026); the update steps were checked against v4.11.30 (3 November 2026). We checked the steps against RestedXP's getting started page, its help center and the addon's public source on 2 November 2026.
Free addon, paid routes
The addon and its Forever routes for levels 1–20 are free; the full Forever guide is a one-time $30 per faction or $45 for both. Our page is RestedXP free? explains exactly what is free, and the RestedXP Forever price guide covers what each package includes.
Step 1: Install the addon
- Remove any old copy first. RestedXP's help center asks you to delete the old version before installing the latest one. Mixed old and new files cause errors.
- Download RestedXP Guide from CurseForge, in the CurseForge app or as a zip. RestedXP supports several WoW clients, so choose the WoW Forever file (v4.11.29 on 2 November 2026). The code is also on GitHub.
- Start the game and, on the character screen, open AddOns and make sure RestedXP Guide is ticked.

If the addon never shows up in game, it is usually in the wrong folder or for the wrong game version; our Forever addon installation guide shows the right folder.
Step 2: Link your Battle.net ID (paid guide only)
RestedXP binds purchased guides to your RestedXP account and your Battle.net ID. Before your first import:
- Log in to your RestedXP account with the email you used to buy.
- In the account section, add your Battle.net ID. RestedXP's getting started page says your guides are "bound to your account and Battle.net-ID".
- If you bought with different emails or have split orders, the help center's "Link Order To Account" option combines them.
RestedXP's terms license paid guides to one Battle.net account for personal use, so use the ID of the account you play on.
Step 3: Export and import your guide
- On the RestedXP website, open Downloads in your account section and click Export next to your WoW Forever guide. This downloads a text file. On launch day, go straight to account.restedxp.com: RestedXP recommends it as the quickest route when the site is busy.
- Open the text file and copy the entire string.
- In game, right-click the RestedXP window (the addon overlay) and choose Import guide, or type
/rxp import. - Paste the string and confirm.
You need to be online in game for the first import and when guides update, according to RestedXP. After that, choose the paid chapter from the guide menu.
If you see "undefined", "Invalid Value" or "Invalid Import String", or the paid chapters don't appear, follow our missing guides and import fixes.
Open the window and select the right chapter
If the guide window is hidden, left-click the RestedXP minimap button once to show it. Right-click that button to open the guide menu, or right-click the guide title in the window, then choose the Forever chapter for your character.
/rxp opens RestedXP's settings rather than the guide window; /rxp show brings back hidden frames.
Before you move, check the chapter against your character:
| Check | What to look for |
|---|---|
| Edition | The chapter is a Forever route. |
| Faction and character | The chapter fits your faction and any race or class it names. |
| Level and location | The opening steps make sense for your level and where you are standing. |
| Quest state | The quests it asks you to turn in are in your log, or you can still pick them up. |
Your level is only part of the match. A chapter can send you to turn in a quest that an earlier section collected, so check the quest log as well as the level range.
RestedXP's Forever guide has two routes: the Speedrun Guide for questing and the Dungeon Leveling Guide, which builds dungeon runs into the route and, since 3 November, splits them into mandatory, optional and upcoming dungeons. See our RestedXP Dungeon Guide page before you choose the dungeon route.
Joining a route after you have already leveled
You do not need to start over. Use your quest log to find where your progress meets the route:
- Find the first named quest in the chapter you want to follow.
- Look for it in your log and check whether its objectives are done.
- If it is missing, check whether the step is a pickup or a turn-in. A missing pickup is quick to fix; a missing earlier quest means stepping back a few instructions.
- Continue from the first step that matches your character's progress.
Skip steps one at a time rather than in a long run, so you can see which earlier pickup a later step depends on. Each step has a checkbox whose tooltip reads "Skip step".
Check one quest from pickup to turn-in
Follow one nearby quest through all three stages before committing to a long run. It confirms that the chapter matches your character.
- At pickup: the quest name in RestedXP matches the quest the NPC offers.
- During the objective: the enemies, items or interaction match your quest log.
- At turn-in: the quest is ready to hand in and the next instruction makes sense.
Use the arrow for direction and the written step for the task. If both agree with your quest log, you are set and can follow the route.

Settings worth checking
Most players can leave the defaults. These are the settings that change what the route shows, all in /rxp:
- Show Group Quests (Guide Routing): keeps elite group quests in the route. RestedXP's Forever progress update notes that some added Alliance quests appear only with it on. Turn it on if you level with friends; leave it off solo.
- Skip overleveled steps (Guide Routing): skips steps you are too high a level for. The addon warns that changing it mid-guide can break quest prerequisites, so set it before you start a chapter.
- Dungeons (Guide Routing): with the Dungeon Guide selected, choose which optional dungeons to include.
- Automation: auto accept and turn-in of route quests. If Questie or Leatrix Plus also automate quests, use automation in only one addon.
- Level Splits: shows your time per level against the guide's.
- Hide waypoint arrow and Reset Arrow Position: for arrow problems.
- Check for Addon Incompatibility: warns about addons known to conflict. Leave it on.
Addons that conflict with RestedXP
The addon's own help lists Leatrix Maps, TomTom, SilverDragon and TotemTimers as having "known incompatibilities with the Waypoint Arrow" and recommends disabling them if navigation misbehaves. It also flags Narcissus for its proximity targeting. Questie works alongside RestedXP for map markers; see RestedXP vs Questie.
If the arrow, steps or skipping misbehave, our RestedXP not working page has the fixes.
When to update, and when to change the selected route
RestedXP ships Forever route fixes often; the release notes list Skyborne, dungeon and race route updates almost every few days. If a step looks wrong, update the addon first. RestedXP's help center says guide updates are free of charge.
Updating the addon is different from choosing a different chapter:
- Quest-state mismatch: note the chapter and step, then compare with your quest log.
- Purchased chapter missing: see our missing guides and import fixes.
- Window does not load: go back to Step 1.
When the free chapters run out around level 20, you can get the full Forever routes with 10% off Affiliate link and carry on without changing addons. Our free leveling guides help with zone choices and progression alongside whichever route you follow.
Updating after the 3 November guide update
The 3 November update changed the paid Forever routes (a new Dungeon Guide structure, routes adjusted for the 40-quest log limit, Alliance routing work and many quest fixes). RestedXP says that if you skip the re-import, it will look as if the update didn't apply:
- Update RestedXP Guide on CurseForge or Wago to the WoW Forever file v4.11.31 (4 November 2026) or newer.
- Log in at account.restedxp.com, open Downloads and Export your Forever guide again.
- In game, type
/rxp import, click Purge and confirm with Yes. This removes the imported guides from the addon, not your quests. - Click Reload in the same window.
- Type
/rxp importagain, paste the new string and click Import, while online in game.
If the paid chapters still don't appear, see our missing guides and import fixes.
