RestedXP Not Working in WoW Forever? Fixes for Arrow, Steps and Quests
Fix RestedXP in WoW Forever: 3 Nov update (purge/reload/import), missing arrow, skipped or stuck steps, full quest log and conflicts.
EnlargeIf RestedXP is not working in WoW Forever, the cause is usually one of five things: an old addon version, the wrong chapter selected, a step-skip setting, a full quest log, or another addon fighting the arrow. Update RestedXP Guide from CurseForge or Wago (Forever file v4.11.31, 4 November 2026), reload with /reload, and work down the checklist below. Own the paid guide and the 3 November update doesn't seem to have applied? Purge, reload and import the new guide string, as shown below. Each fix uses settings that exist in the addon itself.
Paid guides missing, or an import error? If the problem is that your purchased Forever guide does not appear, or you see "undefined", "Invalid Value" or "Invalid Import String", go to RestedXP guides missing in WoW Forever. That page covers purchases, accounts and imports; this one covers the addon in play.
How we checked: the settings, commands and conflict list on this page come from RestedXP Guide v4.11.29 (29 October 2026): its public source code, its in-game help and RestedXP's help center, read on 2 November 2026. Menu paths can move between versions.
After the 3 November update: purge, reload, import
RestedXP released a major Forever guide update on 3 November 2026, the day before launch: a new Dungeon Guide structure, routes adjusted for the 40-quest log limit and a long list of quest-step fixes. RestedXP says that if you only update the addon, it will look as if the update didn't apply. Owners of the paid guide also need to purge the old guide data, reload and import the new guide string:
- Update the addon on CurseForge or Wago. The latest WoW Forever file is v4.11.31, dated 4 November 2026 (dungeon configurator cleanup + l10n). The 3 November guide-string purge/import steps below still apply if your paid routes look stale.
- Get the new guide string. Log in at account.restedxp.com, open Downloads and click Export next to your Forever guide. Copy the whole string from the text file.
- Purge. In game, type
/rxp importto open the guide importer and click Purge. The addon warns that this "will remove ALL guides from the database"; click Yes. It removes the imported guides from the addon, not your quest progress in the game. - Reload. Click Reload in the same window. It reloads the interface.
- Import. Type
/rxp importagain, paste the new string and click Import. Stay online in game while it imports. - Pick your chapter from the guide menu if the guide doesn't open on it.
On launch day: RestedXP recommends that existing owners log in at account.restedxp.com and download the guide from there, on release day or before. It is the quickest route when RestedXP's site is busy. Buying the guide and importing it for the first time is covered on our install and import guide.
Launch night, in order: first make sure the game itself gets you in. If you're stuck in a queue, disconnected or see "no realms available", that's not RestedXP; see WoW Forever login problems. Once you're in game, check the addon version, then purge, reload and import the latest guide string as above. If the guide window doesn't appear at all, work through the checklist below.
The button names come from the guide importer in addon v4.11.31 (source), checked on 5 November 2026.
Quick checklist
- Update the addon. Delete the old RestedXP folder, install the current WoW Forever file and restart the game.
- Reload the interface with
/reload. - Check the chapter. Open the guide menu with the cog at the bottom of the guide window and confirm the selected route matches your faction, race and level.
- Disable known conflicts. Leatrix Maps, TomTom, SilverDragon and TotemTimers interfere with RestedXP's arrow.
- Check the skip settings. "Skip overleveled steps", "Disable step skips" and the experience slider all change which steps appear.
- Make room in your quest log if pickups fail.
- Report it with
/rxp bugif nothing helps.
The guide window or arrow is missing
If nothing shows at all:
- The addon isn't loading. On the character screen, open AddOns and make sure RestedXP Guide is ticked. If it shows as out of date, you have an old file or the wrong game flavor: install the WoW Forever file. Our install guide shows the right folder.
- The frames are hidden. Type
/rxp show./rxp toggleswitches all RestedXP frames on and off, and/rxp hidehides them, so a stray keypress or macro can hide everything. - Only the arrow is missing. Open the settings with
/rxpand check that "Hide waypoint arrow" is off. "Reset Arrow Position" puts the arrow back on screen if you dragged it off. - The window is stuck or tiny. "Lock Frames" stops you moving it; turn it off to drag the window. Holding Alt while dragging resizes it.
The arrow points the wrong way
RestedXP's arrow points to the current step's coordinates. If it points somewhere strange:
- Another addon is moving the waypoint. RestedXP's own help lists Leatrix Maps, TomTom, SilverDragon and TotemTimers as having "known incompatibilities with the Waypoint Arrow", with the advice to disable them if you have navigation issues. Turn them off,
/reload, and test. - You are on the wrong step. If the guide thinks you are earlier or later in the route, the arrow follows. See the next section.
- The step is in another zone. The arrow points toward the next objective, which can be across a zone line or a flight away. Read the step text.
The setting "Check for Addon Incompatibility" makes RestedXP warn you when it finds one of these addons. Leave it on.
Steps are skipping or the guide is stuck
RestedXP skips steps on purpose in several cases, which can look like a bug:
- Quests already done on this character are skipped. That is normal if you followed another guide first.
- "Skip overleveled steps" skips steps you are too high a level for. Turn it off if you want every quest.
- "Skip quests with missing pre-requisites" skips follow-up quests when you did not do the first part.
- The experience slider. RestedXP's help center explains that with an experience setting above 1x, the guide skips chapters it considers inefficient. Set it back to 1x if whole sections vanish.
- "Show Group Quests" controls whether elite group quests stay in the route.
If you want the guide to skip nothing, turn on "Disable step skips". RestedXP describes it as ignoring "any kind of condition that causes a step to auto skip".
If the guide is stuck on a step you have finished:
- Tick the step's checkbox; its tooltip reads "Skip step".
- Check that the quest named in the step is really in your log, and that you picked it up from the right NPC.
/reloadoften fixes a step that hasn't noticed a finished objective, especially after a disconnect.
Starting over: reset guide progress
If your progress is badly out of step, "Reset Guide Progress" clears it for the current character only. It appears on the main settings page and on the Profiles page, and it asks for confirmation. Afterwards, pick the chapter for your level from the guide menu. Quests you have finished stay finished in the game, and the guide skips them again.
Quest log full
WoW Forever's quest log fills fast if you pick up everything. When the log is full, the guide's next pickup fails, so the route stalls. RestedXP's 3 November update adjusted both factions' routes to Forever's 40-quest log limit, so update and re-import first if you are on an older guide string.
- Abandon quests that are not part of your route. Some steps say which quest you can safely abandon.
- The "Quest Log Size" setting (20–40) tells RestedXP how big your log is. The addon defaults to 40 on Forever (20 on Classic Era); leave it at the default unless the guide tells you otherwise.
- At least one Forever step warns you to turn off auto-complete in Questie or Leatrix Plus at specific steps, because those addons can hand in a quest the route still needs.
After an update or a WoW Forever patch
- Delete the old version before installing the new one. RestedXP's help center asks for this; a mix of old and new files is a common cause of errors.
- Make sure the update is for WoW Forever. CurseForge lists a separate Forever file; the latest is v4.11.31, released on 4 November 2026.
- Re-import after a guide update. A paid guide update arrives as a new guide string. If the addon is current but the route looks unchanged, purge, reload and import the new string.
- Paid guides after an update. You need to be online in game for the first import and for updates, according to RestedXP's help center. If your purchased guides have disappeared, follow the missing guides page.
- Lua errors. RestedXP's settings include a toggle to show Lua errors; turn it on, or install BugSack, and include the error text when you report the bug.
Conflicts with other addons
| Addon | Known problem (from RestedXP v4.11.29) | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Leatrix Maps | Waypoint arrow | Disable if navigation misbehaves |
| TomTom | Waypoint arrow | Disable if navigation misbehaves |
| SilverDragon | Waypoint arrow | Disable if navigation misbehaves |
| TotemTimers | Waypoint arrow | Disable if navigation misbehaves |
| Narcissus | Proximity targeting | Install BugSack, or turn off Targeting "Only show when in range" |
| Questie, Leatrix Plus | Auto-complete can hand in quests early at some steps | Turn auto-complete off where the guide says so |
| Another route addon | Two arrows, two sets of steps | Run one route at a time |
Questie itself works alongside RestedXP for map markers; see RestedXP vs Questie. For a vetted list of Forever addons, see WoW Forever addons.
Report a bug
If none of this helps, type /rxp bug (or /rxp feedback) in game to open RestedXP's feedback form, or open a ticket through RestedXP's support. Include your addon version, faction, race, class, level, the chapter name, the step and any Lua error text. /rxp help lists all commands.
Our install, import and use guide covers the settings worth changing on a fresh install.
Frequently asked questions
I updated RestedXP but the 3 November changes aren't there. Why?
Updating the addon is not enough for the paid guide. Export the new guide string from your RestedXP account, then type /rxp import, click Purge and confirm, click Reload, and import the new string.
Why is my RestedXP arrow not working?
Check that "Hide waypoint arrow" is off, and disable Leatrix Maps, TomTom, SilverDragon and TotemTimers: RestedXP lists them as known conflicts with its arrow. Then type /reload.
How do I reset RestedXP guide progress?
Open the settings with /rxp and use "Reset Guide Progress". It clears progress for the current character after a confirmation; then choose the chapter for your level.
Why does RestedXP skip steps?
It skips quests you have done and, depending on settings, steps you are overleveled for, quests with missing prerequisites and inefficient chapters when the experience slider is above 1x. "Disable step skips" turns all auto-skipping off.
RestedXP is stuck on a step. What do I do?
Tick the step's checkbox ("Skip step") to move on, and /reload if the guide hasn't noticed a finished objective. If the guide is far behind, reset guide progress and pick your chapter again.
The RestedXP window or arrow is not showing in WoW Forever. How do I fix it?
Type /rxp show. If that does nothing, check that RestedXP Guide is enabled in the AddOns list and that you installed the WoW Forever file, not one for another WoW version.
My paid RestedXP guides are gone. Is that this page?
No. Missing purchased guides and import errors are covered on our RestedXP guides missing page, which walks through the account, Battle.net ID and import steps.
Does Questie conflict with RestedXP?
Not generally; many players run both. At some steps the guide asks you to turn off Questie's auto-complete so it doesn't hand in a quest early.
