The Ruins of Lordaeron is WoW Forever's new level 15–20 dungeon in the shattered city above the Undercity. In Blizzard's overview, the Forsaken are trying to reclaim Lordaeron, "where treasured keepsakes and memories still lie among ruins haunted by the Scourge", while a necromancer gathers power inside. For Horde it is the natural first dungeon. For Alliance it is a long, risky trip.

This guide covers the entrance and the Alliance route, every quest by faction, the six bosses including the two event bosses, trash to watch and the full loot list. Quest, boss and loot details are from Wowhead's Ruins of Lordaeron guide, checked on 4 November 2026.

How to get to the Ruins of Lordaeron

Horde

Go to the open-world Ruins of Lordaeron above the Undercity. You can walk in from Tirisfal Glades on the road south of Brill. The dungeon portal is inside the ruined city. If the group wipes, the spirit healer is right outside the instance, so this is one of the most forgiving dungeons for run-backs.

Alliance

Blizzard's access note says Alliance groups "will need to venture into Horde territory". Wowhead lays out this route:

  1. Take the boat from Stormwind Harbor to Auberdine.
  2. In Auberdine, cross to the other dock and take the boat to Menethil Harbor.
  3. Stay on the boat until it reaches Southshore in Hillsbrad Foothills.
  4. Follow the road from Southshore to the Hillsbrad Fields.
  5. Continue north and pass around Dalaran.
  6. Swim north through Lordamere Lake into Tirisfal Glades.
  7. Follow the road to the Ruins of Lordaeron entrance.

That is a long trip at level 17 or so. For many Alliance players, the Hall of Thanes (13–18) beneath Ironforge covers the same levels with a far easier trip.

Finding the Crest of Lordaeron. It can spawn in several places. Wowhead names these:

  • behind an interactable door near The Baron's area
  • in a building along Bjork's patrol path
  • along the walls where the gargoyles are

Check all three on your way through.

Horde players should collect all four outside quests before the run. They come from three different places (Brill, the Sepulcher and the Apothecarium), so plan them into your route rather than doubling back.

Trash to watch

  • The spider wing (Venom Lurkers, spiders, tarantulas) is easy one pack at a time. The danger is patrols joining, so pull the packs back toward you.
  • Skeletal Soldiers and Shrieking Banshees near The Baron. Banshees silence, and soldiers hit hard in groups. Stuns such as Hammer of Justice help.
  • Flesh Golems hit very hard and use Knock Away, which also drops threat. They patrol Lordamere Overlook, so position the tank so nobody is knocked into another pack.
  • Ghouls and Ragged Ghouls come in packs of three or four, packed close to other groups. It is easy to pull two packs by accident, so pull carefully.

Ruins of Lordaeron bosses

Wowhead lists six bosses. Two of them only appear after you start an event.

Witherfang

Witherfang patrols King's Alley with two spider adds. Kill the spiders quickly, use stuns and cleanse Leech Poison from the tank. Horde: Witherfang drops the Highly Toxic Strain for The New Plague.

The Baron

A hard hitter with one main ability, Knockout. It deals high instant damage and drops threat, and it can kill a tank who is not at full health. Stun him to stop the cast. He drops the item for Unending Torment and the head for Abominable Creatures.

Viktor the Vile (event)

Light the fire in the chimney of the building to the south-west in Lordamere Overlook, by the Lordaeron Graveyard. You then clear five waves of adds before Viktor arrives. He hits hard in melee and uses the same Leech Poison as Witherfang, so let the tank build threat first.

The Abandoned (event)

When you enter Market Street from Lordamere Overlook, the statue there starts three waves of adds, and then The Abandoned appears. He casts Frost Nova, chills anyone who hits him in melee and uses Drain Life on the tank.

Bjork

Bjork has one ability, a very short Anti-Magic Shield. The fight is a quick tank-and-spank.

Rath'mael

Rath'mael casts Flamestrike, always where the tank stood when the cast began. Move out as soon as he starts channelling, or stun him to stop it. Rath'mael is the target of The Wrath of Rath'mael. Edward Heartweaver and the Blood-Stained Letter are nearby.

The two event bosses add six extra drops, so it is worth starting both events if the group has time. Check tooltips in game, because item stats can change with hotfixes.

Should you run it while leveling?

For Horde between 16 and 20, yes. You get six quests along a normal Tirisfal, Silverpine and Undercity route, a short run back after wipes and 18 possible boss drops. For Alliance, it is worth it if you are already in Hillsbrad or your group is going anyway. Otherwise the Hall of Thanes is the practical choice.

The WoW Forever leveling guide shows where the dungeon fits in the 10–20 bracket, and Wowhead's dungeon overview lists the level ranges for all nine new dungeons.
