Wailing Caverns in WoW Forever is the Horde's biggest quest dungeon below 30, and it changed more than most Classic instances: the queue opens two levels earlier, three bosses hit several times harder, almost every drop was reworked and the Fang set was rebuilt. Ranges and numbers below are from fan reads of beta data, since Blizzard hasn't published levels for Classic dungeons (Wowforevertierlist). For all dungeon quests together, see our dungeon quests guide.

Forever-specific changes

  • Harder bosses. From Conquest Capped's reading of October 8 beta data: Mutanus's Thundercrack deals 475 Nature damage and stuns for 2.5 seconds (Classic: 106–118); Skum's Chained Bolt hits up to three targets for 143 each (Classic: 28–32); Cobrahn's serpent form adds 238 damage (Classic: 50). Bring a healer who can keep up on the last fights.
  • Snakes despawn. Blizzard's October 1 notes say Serpentbloom Snakes "now despawn after a couple of minutes".
  • New and reworked loot. Conquest Capped lists four new boss drops: Snake Eye Kaleidoscope (Anacondra), Cloak of Hermitic Bliss (Kresh), Slither Cord (Pythas) and Skum's Bucket (Skum). Many old drops are now blue, and several caster items carry spell power.
  • Embrace of the Viper (Fang set) rebuilt. Per Conquest Capped, the 5-piece bonus gives melee attacks a chance to stun for 1 second. The wiki also flags the set as changed.
  • Quest reward additions. Leaders of the Fang now offers the new mace Hammerbone as a third choice, according to Conquest Capped.
  • Legacy point. Bind on Forever ties Wailing Caverns to Novice Spelunker, part of Blizzard's Legacy goal for level 15–25 dungeons. See our Legacy points guide.

Wailing Caverns quests

Alliance (5)Deviate Hides (Nalpak), Raptor Horns and Smart Drinks (Mebok Mizzyrix), Trouble at the Docks (Crane Operator Bigglefuzz), Deviate Eradication (Ebru)

Deviate Hides still rewards a 10-slot bag. Pick up the Thunder Bluff chain early: it's a long walk.

How Forever changed dungeon XP and loot

  • Quest bonus cut. Blizzard's October 1 notes say "Dungeon quests now reward 50% less extra experience beyond normal quest values." The normal quest XP stayed, so a dungeon's quests are still worth doing once.
  • More XP from kills. The October 8 notes raised experience from dungeon creatures by about 20%, made the party XP penalty apply per member, and lowered dungeon quest rewards from Rare to Uncommon.
  • Loot was re-examined. Blizzard's Deep Dive recap says "every dungeon drop has been re-examined", hundreds of new drops were added, unique dungeon boss items are now blue and set bonuses were improved. If a bind-on-pickup Uncommon or Rare drops, its appearance goes to every eligible looter.
