Cozy Sleeping Bag in WoW Forever: Quest Chain, Locations and 3% XP Buff
Cozy Sleeping Bag in WoW Forever: level-14 quest chain, Westfall/Barrens to Thoradin's Wall, Well-Rested stacks, and how it differs from the Camp Tent.
EnlargeThe Cozy Sleeping Bag in WoW Forever is a reusable quest reward that turns a three-minute break into up to 3% more experience. It returns from Season of Discovery as a level-14 scavenger hunt with no NPC quest givers—only clickable objects from Westfall and the Barrens through Stonetalon, Loch Modan and Thoradin's Wall. This page covers the quest steps, the Well-Rested buff, and how the bag differs from camping and the Camp Tent.

Cozy Sleeping Bag vs camping (do not mix them up)
| Cozy Sleeping Bag | Camp Tent / camping | |
|---|---|---|
| How you get it | Level-14 object quest chain | Cooking unlocks campfires; Leatherworking places the Camp Tent |
| What it does | Temporary Well-Rested stacks (+1% XP per minute, up to 3%) | Tent tops rested XP up to 5% of a level, then Boosted Rest (1-hour lockout) |
| Where it lives | Item in your bags | Camp feature at a campfire |
| Primary sources | Wowhead Forever bag guide; Icy Veins | Blizzard camping article |
Also do not confuse bag Well-Rested stacks with the Legacy perk Well Rested, which raises how fast and how high your rested XP pool builds. Our rested XP guide and XP buffs overview keep those names straight.
What the item does
According to Wowhead's Forever guide and Icy Veins:
- Use the Cozy Sleeping Bag outdoors (not in a city or inn rested area).
- Lie down on the unfurled bag. Stand still; moving wakes you up.
- Each full minute adds one stack of Well-Rested: +1% experience, up to three stacks (3%).
- The item has a one-hour cooldown.
- While you lie on the bag you also become rested (building the blue rested bar).
- Forever guide writers and Wowhead comments report the buff persists through death.
- Party members can use a deployed bag (same guides).
Buff duration conflict: Wowhead says the buff lasts one hour. Icy Veins says two hours. We have not seen a Blizzard tooltip screenshot that settles it—read the buff in game before you plan around either figure.
Student Fodder drops along the chain. In Forever it regenerates health; it does not store rested XP the way it did in Season of Discovery (Wowhead, Icy Veins).
Quest chain overview (level 14+)
There are six main quests plus one optional campfire side step. Alliance and Horde reverse the first two stops, then share the rest. Coordinates below are the ones Wowhead publishes for Forever.
| # | Quest | Zone | What to click |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | … and that note you found | Westfall or Barrens | Burned-Out Remains |
| 2 | (same, opposite zone) | Barrens or Westfall | Turn in, accept Stepping Stones |
| 3 | Stepping Stones | Stonetalon Mountains | Pocket Litter at abandoned camp (~40.6, 52.4) |
| — | Rekindle (optional) | Same camp | Cold campfire + Simple Wood / Flint and Tinder |
| 4 | Scramble | Stonetalon (hill north of camp) | Mound of Dirt (~39.6, 49.8)—jump required |
| 5 | Wet Job | Loch Modan, Stonewrought Dam | Carved / Eagle Figurine on the dam faces (~49.4, 12.9) |
| 6 | Eagle's Fist → This Must Be The Place | Hillsbrad / Thoradin's Wall | Messenger Bag, then Hastily Rolled-Up Satchel (~87.3, 49.6) |
Faction start order
| Faction | First stop | Second stop |
|---|---|---|
| Alliance | Westfall, Alexston Farmstead (~37, 50) | Barrens tower south of Camp Taurajo (~46, 74) |
| Horde | Barrens tower (~46, 74) | Westfall cart (~37, 50) |
Shared route after Stepping Stones: Stonetalon → Loch Modan → Thoradin's Wall. Horde players reaching Loch Modan should treat the dam jump carefully—Wowhead notes the path is awkward for Horde.
Notable mid-chain rewards
Besides the bag, Stepping Stones awards 12-slot bags (Sturdy Lunchbox / Old Toolbox in guide write-ups) and a tool choice. Scramble awards Student Fodder and a ranged weapon choice. Treat those as useful early bags, not as the reason to run the chain—the bag's XP buff is.
How to use the bag while leveling
Practical pattern that does not invent time savings:
- Unlock the bag once you are past 14 and have flight paths that make the multi-continent hops tolerable.
- Before a long questing block, unroll it somewhere safe, lie down for three full minutes, confirm three stacks, then go.
- Pair it with habits that are independently confirmed: log out rested (rested XP), sit a Camp Tent when available, and use crafted food if your tooltip shows an XP bonus (Deep Dive confirms food can grant a small experience bonus; exact % is reported by third parties).
- Do not invent a combined “X% faster to 60” figure. The bag is a small multiplicative buff; routing still decides most of your hours. See how long leveling takes.
Stacking: what we will and will not claim
| Source | Confirmed? | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Rested XP (inn / city / bag rested area) | Yes (Classic-style mechanic; Forever guides) | Doubles kill XP until spent; not quest turn-ins |
| Camp Tent top-up | Yes (Blizzard camping article) | Caps at 5% of a level + Boosted Rest lockout |
| Crafted food XP | Yes that a bonus exists (Blizzard Deep Dive); exact % third-party | Tooltip is authoritative |
| Well-Rested bag stacks | Yes that the buff exists (Wowhead / Icy Veins) | Duration 1h vs 2h unresolved between guides |
| Combined “hours saved” | No | We will not invent time savings |

After you unlock it
Keep the bag on a visible action bar. Re-apply after the cooldown when you are already waiting (flight path, dungeon queue, campfire minute). If you use a leveling addon, finish the chain early so the rest of your 1–35 route runs with the buff available. Frequently asked questions
What is the Cozy Sleeping Bag in WoW Forever?
A reusable quest reward from a level-14 scavenger hunt. You unroll it, lie down, and gain Well-Rested stacks: +1% experience per full minute, up to three stacks (3%). While you lie on it you also become rested. Wowhead reports the buff lasts one hour; Icy Veins reports two hours—check the in-game tooltip.
Is the Cozy Sleeping Bag the same as camping or the Camp Tent?
No. Camping is Blizzard's profession campfire system (camp features and the Leatherworking Camp Tent that tops up rested XP). The Cozy Sleeping Bag is a separate quest item that grants temporary Well-Rested experience stacks. Our camping guide covers tents; this page covers the bag.
What level do you need for the Cozy Sleeping Bag quest?
Level 14, according to Wowhead's Forever guide. Alliance starts at the Burned-Out Remains in Westfall; Horde starts at the Barrens tower south of Camp Taurajo. Both then visit the other continent and continue together.
Does the Cozy Sleeping Bag stack with rested XP, camp buffs and food?
Third-party Forever guides report that Well-Rested stacks with Camp Benefits and crafted food XP bonuses, and that you can eat while lying on the bag. Blizzard has not published a formal stacking matrix. Rested XP from inns/tents is a separate pool that doubles kill XP.
Does Student Fodder still give rested XP?
No. In Season of Discovery it stored rested experience; in WoW Forever, Wowhead and Icy Veins both say Student Fodder regenerates health instead.
Can party members use my sleeping bag?
Yes, according to Wowhead comments and Forever guide writers: party members can lie on a deployed bag. The item has a one-hour cooldown after you use it.
