Alcaz Prison in WoW Forever: Level, Location and What We Know

Alcaz Prison is WoW Forever's new dungeon for levels 48–53, on Alcaz Island in Dustwallow Marsh. In Blizzard's words, the island "has long been wrapped in rumors of high-ranking prisoners—including King Varian Wrynn—but its prison has remained out of reach. Now, its doors finally open." Inside, "the Defias Brotherhood and naga [are] locked in conflict". It is the least-revealed of the nine new dungeons, so this page sticks to what is confirmed, how to get there, and what to watch for at launch (checked 4 November 2026).

Where is Alcaz Prison and how do you get there?

Warcraft Wiki describes Alcaz Island as "a large island off the northeast coast of Dustwallow Marsh" with tropical plants, unlike the rest of the swamp. The prison is new in Forever, and Bind on Forever notes that the game files don't place its entrance yet. On launch week, expect to search the island for it.

Alliance: fly to Theramore (67.5, 51.2). It is the closest flight path to the island, with flights to Talrendis Point, Auberdine, Nijel's Point, Thalanaar, Gadgetzan and Ratchet, per WoW Forever DB. Alcaz Island lies off the same coast, north of Theramore Isle.

Horde: fly to Brackenwall Village (35.6, 31.8), with flights to Orgrimmar, Gadgetzan, the Crossroads and Thunder Bluff. It's on the far side of the zone from the island. Theramore's guards are Alliance, so give the town a wide berth on the way.

The story: Varian, the Defias and the naga

Blizzard's teaser builds on old lore. In the Warcraft comic, the Defias abducted King Varian Wrynn on his way to Theramore and held him captive on Alcaz Island. Classic players knew the island for its Strashaz naga and Doctor Weavil, from the Alliance chain for Onyxia's Lair access (Warcraft Wiki). Blizzard's line that you will "uncover new pieces of a familiar mystery" points to that story. Nobody knows yet whether Varian appears or how the Onyxia storyline ties in. Treat theories you see on launch week as speculation until someone has cleared the dungeon.

Bosses and quests

Bosses. The boss list is encrypted, but the game already keeps a kill count for Blazeroar (Bind on Forever). Given the two factions Blizzard names, expect a mix of Defias and naga fights. That's an educated guess, not a datamined list.

Quests. None published. The beta was capped at level 30. Theramore is the obvious place for Alliance quests, but that is our guess, not data. Our dungeon quests guide explains why it pays to carry every quest into one run.

When to run Alcaz Prison

At 48–53 it overlaps several Classic dungeons. These are the in-game Group Finder levels Bind on Forever lists: Zul'Farrak (44–54), Maraudon (46–55) and Sunken Temple (50–60). Run it once, ideally with its quests, between 48 and 53, where each level costs 135,100–167,100 XP (see the XP table). Krol'dok Stronghold (40–45) is the new dungeon before it. Blackmaw Hold (55–60) is the next.

It counts toward the Master Spelunker challenge in the Legacy system.
