Alt leveling is where WoW Forever's Legacy System is built to shine. Your first character opens the account-wide point track; every later character spends those points on perks that make leveling less painful. This page is the alt plan: when to create the second character, which perks matter, how to rotate rested XP, and how to reuse routes without inventing 35–60 times.

Full perk list: Legacy Points guide. Rested mechanics: rested XP.

Unlock first, then multiply

Blizzard's Legacy System article says you unlock Legacy with your first Legacy Point. The common path is reaching level 25 on any character (profession skill 150 in a non-gathering primary, or full world exploration, also work).

Practical plan:

  1. Push character #1 at least to 25.
  2. Open Legacy (shield icon / default Y).
  3. Spend early points on Adventure-tree leveling perks.
  4. Create or resume alts with those perks available.

At launch each character can spend up to 16 Legacy Points. Blizzard notes a single character can earn up to 29 on its own, so alts are optional for the cap—but excellent for class challenges and parallel rested bars.

Perk priorities for alts (editorial, not timed)

PerkWhy alts care
Well RestedRaises rested cap and build rate—more doubled kill XP between short sessions
TalentedTalent points up to five levels early—smoother mid-bracket power
Thrill of AdventureReturns some health/mana after non-trivial kills—less drinking
Frequent FlierCheaper/faster flights—alts travel a lot early

Exact rank costs were not fully published in Blizzard's article; don't invent point prices.

Rested rotation across characters

Warcraft Tavern reports rested XP at 5% of a level per 8 hours, capped at 150% of a level, while logged out in inns/cities. Use that as a reported model:

  • Park every alt in an inn before you switch.
  • Play the character with the fullest rested bar when you have a short session.
  • Save long tourist sessions for when rested is low and you are turning in quests (rested does not double turn-ins).

Camp Tent tops rested up to 5% of a level when you are below that (camping guide). On alts with Well Rested, tents matter less once the bar is healthy—but they still help a fresh park.

Route reuse

  • Same faction alts: replay your Speedrun or free chapter list; knowledge compounds.
  • Opposite faction: buy Both Factions or a second faction pack if you use RestedXP—see discount / price.
  • Live coverage: Forever Speedrun 1–35 is what is shipped; don't assume Forever 35–60 chapters exist yet (1–35 route).

Class picks for alts: durable solos (Hunter, Warlock, Paladin) reduce deaths when you are distracted. See best leveling class.

Professions on alts

Split gathering and crafting across characters so Camp Tent / Lodestone / Mana Well appear in groups (professions, camping). First Aid and Cooking help every alt; Leatherworking matters if you want tents on demand.

Duo and invite habits

Alts are easy duo partners for elite quests once Legacy Thrill of Adventure and better gear exist on the main. Party XP rules from 8 October still apply—no boosting by a vastly higher main (duo leveling).

Alt checklist

  • Main at 25+ (Legacy open)
  • Well Rested / Talented considered
  • Every alt logged out in an inn
  • Route ready (free 1–20 or paid)
  • Bags/hearth/food template copied
  • No plan that depends on unshipped Forever 35–60 routes
