WoW Forever Weapon Skills: Trainers, Costs and Which Class Can Use What
Where to learn weapon skills in WoW Forever: every Weapon Master, 10 silver per skill, Polearms at 20 for 1 gold, the class weapon table and what changed.
EnlargeIn WoW Forever, weapon skills work as in Classic: you must train a weapon type before you can equip it, and you raise it by using the weapon. Weapon Masters in the capital cities teach most skills for 10 silver from level 1; Polearms need level 20 and cost 1 gold. What changed: no racial raises weapon skill any more, gear gives less of it, and a few classes can use new weapon types.
Status: trainer names, costs and the class table come from Warcraft Tavern's beta guide, checked 4 November 2026. Blizzard's own notes confirm only that weapon skill "still works as it always has". We'll correct anything that differs at launch.

Costs. 10 silver per skill from level 1, Polearms 1 gold from level 20, with faction discounts applied. That's small, but in the first levels 10 silver is real money; train only what you'll use.

What changed from Classic
- No racial raises weapon skill. Warcraft Tavern reported from the BlizzCon demo that Gun Specialization, Bow and Throwing Specialization and the old Mace Specialization were removed or replaced, and Wowhead's 31 October racial list still has no weapon-skill racial. Pick your weapon for its stats, not your race. Our races and racials guide lists every current racial.
- Gear gives less weapon skill. Blizzard's deep dive recap: weapon skill "still works as it always has, but items with weapon skill offer less of it per item so they are not always the obvious best choice." Warcraft Tavern reports Edgemaster's Handguards going from +7 to +1.
- Hit and crit are combined. The same recap says hit and crit chance are merged across spells and attacks, which matters more for your leveling stats than weapon skill does.
Leveling a weapon skill
The rules are Classic's:
- Your cap is five times your level. At level 20 you can reach 100 skill in a weapon.
- You raise it by hitting things. Each hit has a chance to give a point; low skill rises quickly and slows near the cap.
- Low skill means misses and glancing blows. A freshly trained weapon at skill 1 on a level 30 character misses a lot. Level it on easy mobs before relying on it.
- Train early. If a quest reward or dungeon drop of a new type is coming, learn the skill on your next city visit so it's levelled by the time you need it.
Common situations while leveling
- Paladins and Warriors at 20: Polearms open up; worth it only if you have a good polearm. Two-handed swords, axes and maces are usually easier to find.
- Rogues: Combat works with any of your weapon types, and the new One-Handed Axes widen your upgrade options from quests. See our Rogue guide.
- Hunters: you can use most melee weapons except maces, for their stats; your ranged weapon decides your damage. See our Hunter guide.
- Druids: Polearms are new, but feral damage doesn't depend on the weapon type, so pick by stats.
- Prot tanks: Prot Paladins want a fast one-hander for Seal of Fury (Prot Paladin guide); Prot Warriors a one-hander and shield (Prot Warrior guide).
Trainer trips and your route
A trainer visit in a capital city costs travel time, so combine it with a class-trainer visit and other city errands. RestedXP's Forever routes include class-training stops; check the route's city visit before you make a separate trip for a weapon skill.
Frequently asked questions

According to Warcraft Tavern's trainer guide, every weapon skill costs 10 silver and can be learned from level 1, except Polearms, which need level 20 and cost 1 gold. Faction reputation discounts apply.
Where is the weapon trainer in WoW Forever?
Weapon Masters are in the capital cities: Woo Ping in Stormwind, Buliwyf Stonehand and Bixi Wobblebonk in Ironforge, Ilyenia Moonfire in Darnassus, Sayoc and Hanashi in Orgrimmar, Ansekhwa in Thunder Bluff and Archibald in Undercity. Each teaches a different set of weapons.
Where do I learn Polearms in WoW Forever?
From Woo Ping in Stormwind (Alliance) or Archibald in Undercity (Horde), from level 20, for 1 gold.
Do racials still give weapon skill in WoW Forever?
No. In Forever no racial raises weapon skill; the Classic weapon specializations such as Gun Specialization and Bow Specialization were removed or replaced. Check our races page for the current racials.
Did Blizzard change weapon skill in WoW Forever?
The mechanic is the same. Blizzard says weapon skill "still works as it always has, but items with weapon skill offer less of it per item". Warcraft Tavern reports Edgemaster's Handguards dropping from +7 to +1, as shown in the deep dive.
How do I level a weapon skill?
Use the weapon in combat. As in Classic, your skill can go up to five times your level, and it rises faster when it is far below that cap. Train a new weapon type a little before you need it and use it on easy mobs.
