Riding in WoW Forever: learn the skill at 40 and the trainer gives you a mount.Illustration generated for wowforeverleveling.com

WoW Forever mounts work differently from Classic. You learn to ride at level 40, pay the trainer about 100 gold, and the mount is included. Journeyman Riding at 60 gives 100% speed for about 1,000 gold. Blizzard confirmed the model in its Deep Dive recap: Forever is "adopting the Burning Crusade-style mount-cost approach, shifting the up-front mount cost into training and granting a mount when players learn the riding skill."

This page covers the levels, the costs, every racial trainer, class mounts and how to save enough gold. For a full gold plan, see our gold while leveling guide.

Prices are from the beta client, as reported by Warcraft Tavern and Timesaver. Honored reputation with your home faction takes 10% off both training and mounts. Blizzard has confirmed the model but has not published the gold prices, so check your trainer on live.

The difference from Classic: there, the 60% mount itself cost most of the gold. In Forever you can't save by buying only the skill, because the skill is the cost.

Gold budget for riding

Blizzard's November 2 development notes put class training from 1 to 60 at "between 206 and 207 gold for all classes." Riding comes on top:

  • Riding at 40: about 100 g, plus whatever class training you have bought by then.
  • 100% riding at 60 with a fast mount: about 1,000 g + 200 g + 100 g earlier, so about 1,300 g for riding and about 1,500 g including class training. Honored saves you about 10% of the riding part.

Forever is a fresh economy with no gold transfers announced from other Classic versions. Start saving early. Our gold leveling guide covers professions and what to sell.

Riding trainers by race

You train with your own race's trainer. You need Exalted with another race to train with them or buy their mounts (Warcraft Tavern).

Class mounts: Paladin and Warlock

Paladins and Warlocks get their mounts from class quests at 40, and epic quests at 60, as in Classic. According to Warcraft Tavern, they also learn to ride that way. Forever adds Undead (Forsaken) Paladins, who get their own mount quests. The beta stopped at level 30, so nobody has finished these quests on live yet. Keep 100 g ready in case the trainer still charges you.

Pack mounts and store mounts

The Cerulean Prideclaw from the Skyborne packs is a ground mount, but Blizzard's pre-purchase page says "players will need to purchase the riding skill in-game to access and use this mount." It doesn't let you skip riding training or ride before 40.

No flying

Forever is set in original Azeroth. Blizzard's What's Next panel recap says it plainly: "no flying mounts, no level scaling".

Leveling tips for the mount

  • Plan your gold from level 1. A gathering profession and selling greens on a new auction house pay for riding. See gold while leveling.
  • Skip ranks you don't use at the class trainer. Every class pays the same total now.
  • Riding at 40 is the biggest speed boost while leveling. Every hour from 40 on is faster. Pair it with the XP buffs and the fastest leveling methods.
  • At 60 the 100% skill matters for raids. Mount Hyjal's raids open on 9 December 2026. See our Mount Hyjal guide.

Frequently asked questions

What level do you get a mount in WoW Forever?

Level 40 for Apprentice Riding (60% faster) and level 60 for Journeyman Riding (100% faster). Blizzard kept the Classic riding levels.

How much does a mount cost in WoW Forever?

About 100 gold at level 40, and the trainer gives you a basic racial mount with the skill. Journeyman Riding at 60 is about 1,000 gold, and a fast mount is about 200 gold more. These are beta-client prices reported by Warcraft Tavern and players. Blizzard has not published them. Honored reputation with your home faction takes 10% off.

Do you have to buy a mount separately in WoW Forever?

Not your first one. Blizzard says Forever uses the Burning Crusade model: the cost moves into training, and you get a mount when you learn the riding skill. Extra colors (about 20 gold) and fast mounts (about 200 gold) are separate purchases.

Where do I learn riding in WoW Forever?

From your own race's riding trainer, usually by the mount vendor near your starting area. Examples are Eastvale Logging Camp in Elwynn Forest for Humans, Orgrimmar for Orcs, Sen'jin Village for Trolls, and Fairweather Stables on Zephras Isle for the Skyborne. You need Exalted with another race to train there and buy their mounts.

Can I use the Cerulean Prideclaw at level 1?

No. Blizzard's pre-purchase page says players will need to purchase the riding skill in-game to use the Skyborne pack mount.

Is there flying in WoW Forever?

No. Blizzard's What's Next panel recap lists “no flying mounts” among Forever's design principles, so riding is ground-only.
