City of Dalaran is WoW Forever's new level 28–33 dungeon. The violet dome over the mage city has finally come down. In Blizzard's overview, enchantments are backfiring, constructs are running wild and dangerous magic is spilling into the streets. After earning the Kirin Tor's trust, you go in through the sewers. Once you reach the city proper, you choose your own path between encounters.

It is also the first new dungeon with an attunement, the Dalaran Sewer Key. This guide covers getting the key for both factions, the entrance, every quest, all eight bosses including the secret Lyn the Ignored, and the loot worth chasing. We used Blizzard's overview, Wowhead's City of Dalaran guide and GameSpot's City of Dalaran guide, checked on 4 November 2026.

The Dalaran Sewer Key (attunement)

Blizzard names the start for each faction. Alliance players begin with "An Alarming Request" from Emissary Jacques in Southshore. Horde players begin with "Key to the City" and "Prison Break-In" from Magus Wordeen Voidglare in Tarren Mill. GameSpot fills in the rest of each chain, and both end at the Image of Archmage Modera outside the dungeon entrance. The key goes into your bags when you accept Heart of Disruption from her.

Alliance (short)

  1. In Southshore, accept An Alarming Request from Emissary Jacques.
  2. Go north to the Image of Archmage Modera by the sewer entrance and turn it in.
  3. Accept Heart of Disruption. You now have the Dalaran Sewer Key.
  4. While you are there, also take Starving Arcane from Modera.

Horde (longer)

  1. In Tarren Mill, do Magus Wordeen Voidglare's chain: Prison Break In, Key to the City, Stone Tokens and Dalaran Patrols.
  2. He then sends you to Modera with Blood in the Streets.
  3. Accept Heart of Disruption from Modera to get the key.

Only one player in the group needs the key to open the sewer gate. Anyone who wants the Heart of Disruption reward still needs the quest. GameSpot lists the dungeon quests at level 24 and cleared the dungeon comfortably at level 30 on the beta.

How to get to the entrance

The entrance is a sewage pipe on the outer side of Dalaran's northern wall, opening onto Lordamere Lake.

  • Alliance: fly or take the boat to Southshore, then head north-west through Hillsbrad into Dalaran.
  • Horde: GameSpot's fastest route is to fly to The Sepulcher, head east to Lordamere Lake and swim south-east from The Decrepit Ferry to the entrance. From Kalimdor, take the zeppelin from Orgrimmar and run down to the lake from the Undercity. You can also come up from Hillsbrad after the Tarren Mill chain, but max-level Kirin Tor guards patrol the main entrance to Dalaran.

Wiping is costly here because of the long run back. Wowhead warns about this for every Forever dungeon, so bring someone who can resurrect if you can.

Quest tips from GameSpot:

  • Arcane Mote: it drops from the Shade of the Archmage, the final boss. It dropped on the first kill for both of GameSpot's characters, but the sample was small.
  • Fel Infused Blossoms grow around the central park. Kill the Fel Ancient first.
  • The Founding of Dalaran: go into the Silver Enclave, to the left of the Violet Citadel's staircase, up into the Atrium of Fortune. It is an interactable bookcase behind the mage statue.
  • Starving Arcane (Alliance) and Source of Power (Horde) usually need two runs, because there are not enough of the mobs for a full group in one clear.

Reward lists are from GameSpot's beta runs. Wowhead's quest-reward table for this dungeon did not match these quests when we checked, so we did not use it.

Bosses

The two sewer bosses come in a fixed order. In the city, the other six can be done in any order. GameSpot's suggested route is Krasus' Landing (right as you come up), then the Violet Hold, then through Runeweaver Square. Pick up the backstreet bosses before you finish at the Violet Citadel.

Atrexis the Grave Knight (sewers)

He moves between Kirin Tor Necromancers. Pull at least two necromancers away first, which is easy because his aggro radius is small. He summons skeletons, as does the necromancer that stays with him, so DPS must let the tank build threat before using area damage. Abilities: Thrash, Unholy Frenzy, Strike and Disarm. A shield-wearing tank has an easier time. Horde: killing him completes The Grave Knight.

Lyn the Ignored (secret, sewers)

Optional, with its own mini-attunement:

  1. Finish Shadowfang Keep and take the Black Tome from the table next to Archmage Arugal.
  2. Go to Ambermill in Silverpine Forest and use the tome at the leyline focus (Wowhead) or blue crystal (GameSpot) in the town hall. It becomes the Tome of Dalaran.
  3. After Atrexis, go straight on into the tunnel instead of right to the surface. Stand on the ritual glyph and use the tome.

Lyn casts Shadow Bolt Volley, raises skeletons and applies Curse of Thorns, which gives your attacks a chance to damage you. Dispel the curse quickly, especially on rogues and other melee.

Arcane Anomaly

It casts Arcane Bolt, but the real mechanic is Focal Blast, a room-length beam that rotates slowly. Keep moving ahead of it. Small adds spawn at the edge of the room, so stay inside the circle on the platform.

Arcanic Enigma

It arrives with two Mana Phantoms. Kill them first, because their Mana Burn is brutal. Manamorph crowd-controls a player for 8 seconds and can be dispelled as magic. The boss silences everyone near it, so healers should stand back. It keeps spawning Arcane Manalings. Have the tank hold them and cleave them down after the boss. Alliance: this kill completes Power Overwhelming.

Unstable Sentinel

Malfunction winds up and then hits everyone within 25 yards. Ranged should stay at max range, and melee should step out on the wind-up. GameSpot reports that the wind-up can be interrupted. Kill the Angry Tomes that spawn from the buildings before you pull.

Mana Devourer

It sits by the entrance to the Violet Hold. Debilitate damages everyone within 45 yards and drains 200 mana, and Drain Vitality hits the tank over 10 seconds. It is a race against your mana, so burn it fast. It is immune to Arcane. Clear the trash in the area first, or it joins the fight.

Fel Ancient

Entangle roots two players while Fel Timbers leaves green pools on the ground. Together they kill people. Use Blessing of Freedom, Escape Artist or other movement-freeing effects. You can reach the Fel Ancient without killing earlier bosses.

Shade of the Archmage (final)

Talk to Archmage Modera on the Violet Citadel stairs to open a portal to the spire. The fight starts as soon as you enter the room at the top. He casts Arcane Bolt on the tank, Arcane Explosion within 20 yards and Bounding Mana, a projectile that goes out and comes back. When his mana runs out, he casts Mass Polymorph and Evocation. Spread out, keep casters at range and do not pull him out of his room, because he resets.

Loot highlights

Every boss drops three or four items. These are the drops most likely to matter while leveling, with the stats GameSpot recorded on the beta:

There are also two campsite blueprints: Blueprint: Spinning Wheel (Tailoring 140) from the Unstable Sentinel and Blueprint: Arcane Salvager (Enchanting 140) from the Shade of the Archmage. If you craft, the camping guide explains how camp features work. Stats came from the beta and can change, so check tooltips in game.

Is City of Dalaran worth it while leveling?

At 30 it is one of the richest stops in the 20–35 range. Each faction has four or five quests, eight bosses and a nearby Kirin Tor questing area. It takes time, though. The Horde key chain alone is five quests, and the Lyn detour needs a Shadowfang Keep clear. If you want to fit it into a route without wasted trips, our leveling guide shows where 28–33 falls by faction. RestedXP's Dungeon Guide covers how its Dungeon Leveling route handles runs like this.

Frequently asked questions

How do you get the Dalaran Sewer Key in WoW Forever?

Accept Heart of Disruption from the Image of Archmage Modera outside the dungeon entrance; the key comes with the quest. Alliance players unlock her by doing An Alarming Request from Emissary Jacques in Southshore. Horde players go through Magus Wordeen Voidglare's chain in Tarren Mill (Prison Break In, Key to the City, Stone Tokens, Dalaran Patrols and Blood in the Streets) first.

Does everyone in the group need the City of Dalaran attunement?

No. The Dalaran Sewer Key opens the sewer entrance for the group, so one key holder is enough. Players who want the Heart of Disruption rewards still need the quest themselves.

What level is City of Dalaran in WoW Forever?

Blizzard lists City of Dalaran for levels 28–33. Wowhead recommends 28–34, and GameSpot cleared it comfortably at level 30 in the beta, which is a sensible entry point.

How many bosses are in City of Dalaran?

Eight: Atrexis the Grave Knight, Lyn the Ignored, Arcane Anomaly, Mana Devourer, Fel Ancient, Unstable Sentinel, Arcanic Enigma and the final boss, Shade of the Archmage. Lyn is an optional secret boss summoned with the Tome of Dalaran.

How do you summon Lyn the Ignored?

Take the Black Tome from Archmage Arugal's table after finishing Shadowfang Keep, turn it into the Tome of Dalaran at the Ambermill Leyline Focus in Silverpine Forest, then use it on the ritual glyph in the sewer tunnel past Atrexis the Grave Knight.
