Shen'dralas in WoW Forever is the new zone hidden south of Desolace, and the Valley of Bones is the way in. In Classic the valley was a dead end; in Forever the road continues into Shen'dralas, between Desolace and Feralas (Bind on Forever). Its quests continue Desolace's centaur war: at level 35, with Honored reputation, the Gelkis or the Magram send you into the cursed valley. The two chains mirror each other, each offers two weapon choices, and both end at Khan Jehn. Blizzard raised the level requirement from 30 to 35 in the 8 October development notes. Below: where the zone is, how to unlock it, how the chains differ, the rewards, and whether it's worth your leveling time.

Shen'dralas: what's new in Forever

Blizzard ties the zone to the Shen'dralar of Eldre'Thalas, the Highborne city that became Dire Maul, and to the local centaur tribes (WoW Forever DB). What the beta files show:

  • Location: south of Desolace through the Valley of Bones. The files show no flight point inside the zone, so you fly to Desolace and walk in.
  • Six areas: Valley of Bones, Magram Front, Outcast Hideaway, Bristleback Retreat, Evenshade's Overlook and the Forlorn Gardens.
  • 19 quests at levels 38–43, all requiring level 35, open to both factions. Blizzard speaks of dozens of quests, so expect more at launch.
  • A new faction in the files: the Gelkis Outcasts, whose Outcast Hideaway is in the zone.
  • No official level range and no Group Finder entry yet. The public beta was capped at level 30, so nobody has quested here at the intended level.

How to unlock the Valley of Bones

The Gelkis quest text sends you to "the scout Nerlokh at the southern entrance" of the valley "far east of Gelkis Village" (Wowhead, Gelkis). The Magram version sends you to "the other end of the village" to find Orgrul (Wowhead, Magram). Both list Honored with the clan as a requirement and give 125 reputation.

Reaching Honored is the slow part. According to Wowdee's summary of Zockify's beta-data guide:

  1. Take Carved Centaur Totems from Captain Pentigast at Nijel's Point (Alliance) or Gurda Wildmane at Ghost Walker Post (Horde).
  2. Kill the clan you are not siding with to collect totems.
  3. Turn in Buying Friendship for your clan. It gives 3,000 reputation with your clan and costs 15,000 with the other.
  4. Climb to Honored with the clan's early quests, rival kills and the repeatable totem turn-in. Quests alone don't get you there.

Gelkis or Magram: how the chains differ

Gelkis (Nerlokh, Uthek the Wise)Magram (Orgrul, Hagiak)
ThemeRescue and cleansingNecromancy and conquest
Typical stepsKill Undead Ravagers, rescue 5 Gelkis captives, lay bones to rest, escort RokrenCollect cursed bones, kill Gelkis captives, raise bones, clear Bristleback Retreat
FinaleKill Khan Jehn in Magram VillageResurrect Khan Jehn by Magram Village's lake
Profession recipes at HonoredEnchanting, Tailoring, LeatherworkingAlchemy, Blacksmithing, Engineering

Step lists and the recipe split are from Wowdee. Each Khan Jehn finale gives 6,000 reputation with your clan and costs 30,000 with the other, so switching later means grinding back.

Rewards

Each chain has two quests where you choose one of three items (Wowdee; every name is on Blizzard's 8 October retuning list):

ClanQuestChoose one of
GelkisTest Your TheoryCentaur Spear (2H polearm), Wanderer's Broadsword (2H sword), Desert Crawler's Claw (dagger)
GelkisKhan JehnAbandoned Ferocity (2H axe), Bludgeon of Betrayed Virtues (1H mace), Thrice-Damned Effigy (off-hand)
MagramProof of ConceptBlade of the Magram Clan (1H sword), Staff of Revelations (staff), Desperate Barrier (shield)
MagramKhan JehnGreatstaff of the Necrokhans (staff), Soulsplatter Mace (main-hand mace), Scavenged Magram Armament (2H polearm)

Blizzard's notes say "most of the items above have simply had their power level adjusted to the expected value from the quest, but some received stat changes", and that a coming hotfix makes them require level 35 to equip. A separate, clan-neutral Khan Hratha quest from Umarak offers Kolkar Marauder Chain, Traitor's Finger, Kolkar Hunter's Belt or Ceremonial Centaur Blanket.

Quick picks: casters lean Magram (two staves). Two-hand melee can find a weapon on either side. Tanks get Desperate Barrier from Magram. Match the clan to your professions if the weapons are a tie: see our professions guide.

Is it worth it while leveling?

  • Yes if you've already built Honored in Desolace. You collect totems and reputation while doing the zone's normal quests, and the chain gives a weapon upgrade at 35.
  • No if you're only chasing XP. The reputation grind to Honored is slow. Blizzard says the Riverglades covers "much of the mid-30s to mid-40s" with more than 150 new quests, so it's the faster default. The main leveling guide has the full zone order.
  • Mind the XP curve. Levels 35–39 cost 67,100–85,700 XP each (see the XP table), so a long reputation detour costs real time.

What isn't confirmed yet

  • Whether the level 35 equip requirement on the rewards is live.
  • Final reward stats, and the reputation caps for kills and totem turn-ins. These come from beta data and may change at launch.

Where RestedXP fits

Side chains like Valley of Bones are where a route earns its keep: it tells you whether the detour fits your path. RestedXP's Forever Speedrun routes cover levels 1–35 now, with 35–60 after launch. Read our RestedXP review, and get 10% off with the discount code.

Frequently asked questions

Where is Shen'dralas in WoW Forever?

In Kalimdor, south of Desolace. You enter through the Valley of Bones at Desolace's southern end, which was a dead end in Classic. Bind on Forever places the zone between Desolace and Feralas, west of Mulgore and north of Dire Maul.

What level is Shen'dralas?

Blizzard hasn't announced a level range. The 19 quests in beta data are levels 38 to 43 and need level 35, and the Valley of Bones quests have required level 35 since Blizzard's October 8 notes. Treat it as a level 38–43 area.

Do you need reputation to quest in Shen'dralas?

For the Valley of Bones chains, yes. Wowhead's Forever quest pages list Honored with the Gelkis or the Magram centaur clan as a requirement for the opening quest.

Should I pick Gelkis or Magram?

Pick by reward and profession. The weapon choices differ by clan, and per the beta data Wowdee cites, Gelkis sells Enchanting, Tailoring and Leatherworking recipes at Honored while Magram sells Alchemy, Blacksmithing and Engineering. Each finale costs 30,000 reputation with the other clan.

Is Shen'dralas worth it while leveling?

If you already have Honored from questing in Desolace, yes: 19 quests at 38–43 and a weapon upgrade. If you'd have to grind reputation first, the Riverglades, Blizzard's new zone for the mid-30s to mid-40s, is the faster default.
